Jon Jones manager: We want the Brock Lesnar fight
Over the weekend, Jon Jones reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight title by knocking out his arch rival, Daniel Cormier. In the buildup to and fallout of this fight, Jones generated a tidal wave of headlines by expressing interest in a blockbuster super fight with former UFC heavyweight champion and long-time WWE star Brock Lesnar.
On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Jones’ manager Malki Kawa reiterated the new champ’s interest in this fight.
“We want the Brock Lesnar fight,” he said. “We definitely want the Brock Lesnar fight.”
Kawa then explained that Jones might even be willing to wait for Lesnar’s USADA suspension to expire in order to make this fight happen.
“I think [he’d wait],” he said. “Listen, we haven’t talked about it yet. I just know it’s the next fight we want. I haven’t really sat down and said, ‘hey, what do you want to do next, if this happens or that happens?’ But we’ll figure that out soon.”
From there, Kawa explained the logic behind Jones’ callout of Lesnar, rather than another top light heavyweight like Alexander Gustafsson.
“Listen, he’s said many times that Conor McGregor has inspired him in different ways, and that he’s looked up to some of the stuff that he’s done,” he said. “I think Jon is realizing that there’s an opportunity to make a lot of money, and I think that the biggest money fight out there for him right now is Brock Lesnar. If that can happen, I think that’s the fight he would prefer over everything else. Not to say there aren’t other fights that could make a lot of money, including Gustafsson, including a heavyweight championship, including a lot of different things. But again, we haven’t spoken down and talked about what the plan is or isn’t.”
Do you think Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar will actually fight?
