Jon Jones explains why he is attending UFC 210
When news surfaced earlier this week that former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones would be attending UFC 210 on Saturday night, fans immediately began to speculate as to whether or not the former champ would end up stepping into the Octagon at the end of the night to have a staredown with the winner given that UFC President Dana White recently informed Jones that he would be fighting the winner of Saturday’s Daniel Cormier vs. Anthony Johnson light heavyweight title fight.
UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier caught wind of Jones’ plans, and sent a warning to the former champ, insinuating that if Jones entered the Octagon, there would be some trouble.
Jones hosted a Q&A with media members Friday afternoon, where he addressed Cormier’s comments, saying:
“I should just see what he meant by that, maybe go in there,” Jones jokingly said. “I have no intentions of going in there, harassing the guy. I want him to enjoy his moment – his last moments with the belt.”
In addition, Cormier stated that he felt Jones was being “desperate” by attending UFC 210, something Jones feels is the result of him being in Cormier’s head:
“It was just some of the dumbest (expletive) that I’ve ever heard, really,” Jones said. “I think he’s just really upset that I’m here and kind of stole some of his spotlight. But that definitely wasn’t my intention. My intention was to come here and watch two guys that I’m fighting. But he hates me. He hates me. That’s safe to say. I annoy him a lot and it definitely works to my advantage to be so deep in this guy’s head.”
Only time will tell if Cormier and Jones will once again meet in the Octagon. Do you think Cormier will be able to defeat Johnson and secure a fight with Jones? Give us your thoughts below PENN Nation!
