Jon Jones says if Ovince Saint Preux beats him, it would ‘be the greatest day’ of Daniel Cormier’s life

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have still been jabbing at each other even after Cormier had to pull out of their UFC 197 title fight due to an injury.

The former champion, Jon Jones spoke with MMA Junkie about the current champion Cormier and his new opponent, Ovince Saint Preux.

“It makes it harder for ‘DC’ to sell that he’s not at least nervous,” Jones told MMAjunkie. “‘DC’ can say, ‘I’m not scared. I’m not nervous.’ But when you offer to pay and fly Ovince Saint Preux out to train him to beat me, it’s just – he showed his true colors. He showed he is nervous and that if Ovince Saint Preux were to win, it would be the greatest day of his life.”

Although Cormier offered to help “OSP” prepare for the fight with Jones, the current champ posted some comments on twitter that implied that “OSP” wasn’t much of a threat in the Octagon. Jones, however, is taking the opposite approach to the UFC light heavyweight interim title fight.

“Every fighter is a new challenge you’ve never seen before, for the most part,” he said. “They zigzag and react a little differently. I knew nothing about him a few days ago, but I’ve been studying him nonstop. I feel like I know him pretty well now, studying his character, studying his fighting skills. I respect him. He seems like a good person, a hard worker. He’s young in the sport, ambitious and is taking the opportunity of a lifetime. I’m sure he’s going to give it all he’s got. Me being a veteran I know the importance of not underestimating. I’m not going to underestimate him.”

Jones also said that if the fight goes well against Saint Preux and doesn’t come out with any injuries, he would love to be on either the UFC 200 card or the UFC’s first event in New York.
