ODDS | Jon Jones opens as big favorite in potential Brock Lesnar bout

By Tom Taylor - June 17, 2018

Talk of a potential heavyweight superfight between former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has once again started making headlines. This, thanks to some recent comments from UFC President Dana White, who implied that both men want the fight.

Jon Jones, Brock Lesnar

“I know that Brock’s WWE deal is up at the end of the summer, I think,” White recently told TMZ. “I know he wants to fight so I’m sure we’ll end up getting that figured out.”

“There are a lot of options [for Lesnar],” he continued. “Jon Jones is very interested in Brock Lesnar and Brock Lesnar is very interested in Jon Jones.”

If this fight does happen, the oddsmakers believe that Jon Jones will probably win. The sportsbook Bovada has identified Jones as a healthy -350 favorite in this potential fight, while Lesnar has been pegged as a +260 underdog. This means that a successful $350 bet on Jones would earn you $100, while a successful $100 bet on Lesnar would earn you $260.

The important detail to note when discussing this fight, of course, is that both Jones and Lesnar are currently tied up with USADA troubles.

Lesnar, who is currently under contract with WWE, will have to serve the remaining six months of a USADA suspension administered after he failed a UFC 200 drug test before he can return to the cage.

Jones, meanwhile, is awaiting sentencing after failing a drug test administered in the lead-up to his UFC 214 no contest with Daniel Cormier. That being said, his manager Abe Kawa seems optimistic we’ll have news on this suspension soon.

“There is a decision coming and it’s hopefully sooner rather than later,” Kawa said of Jones.

Who do you think wins a heavyweight superfight between Jon Jones and Brock Lesnar? Did the oddsmakers get it right?
