Over the weekend, Jon Jones reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight title by knocking out his arch rival, Daniel Cormier. In the buildup to and fallout of this fight, Jones generated a tidal wave of headlines by expressing interest in a blockbuster super fight with former UFC heavyweight champion and long-time WWE star Brock Lesnar. On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Jones’ manager Malki Kawa reiterated the new champ’s interest in this fight.

Shortly after his UFC 210 loss to then light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, brick fisted contender Anthony Johnson announced his plan to retire from MMA. While the fighter nicknamed “Rumble” assured his retirement was probably for good, he did suggest he’d be willing to come back for a future bout with light heavyweight great Jon Jones. After Jones’ UFC 214 destruction of Daniel Cormier, which he witnessed live, Rumble’s interest in a comeback seems to be inflating. He discussed the possibility on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour.

Jon Jones was able to reclaim his UFC light heavyweight championship at last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim, by defeating Daniel Cormier via third-round knockout. After two very closely contested rounds with “DC”, Jones was able to land a beautiful head kick in round three which left Cormier on wobbly legs and in all sorts of trouble. From there, “Bones” would get Cormier to the ground where he unleashed some brutal ground and pound which forced the referee to step in and call the contest.

Jon Jones reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight championship at last night’s UFC 214 event in Anaheim, this after scoring a third-round TKO victory over Daniel Cormier in the evenings main event. After two closely contested rounds, “Bones” was able to find a home for a crushing head kick early in round three which left Cormier staggered and on wobbly legs. Jones would immediately rush after “DC” and get him to the octagon canvas where he proceeded to unleash some brutal ground and pound which forced the referee to step in and call a stop to the action.

A light heavyweight title fight rematch between current champ Daniel Cormier and former title holder Jon Jones served as the main event of tonight’s UFC 214 fight card in Anaheim, California. Round one begins and Jones lands a hard low kick. He lands a right hand and then a left. Jones starting off quickly. Cormier lands a massive uppercut that knocks the mouth guard out of Jon Jones. The referee hands it to him. Jones lands a takedown but Cormier scrambles and they are back up. Jones with a left hand. Cormier replies with one of his own. Jones with a nice shot to the body. He lands a kick to the thigh. Cormier presses forward. Jones fakes a kick. He throws a low kick. He lands a left and then throws Cormier in to the fence. Another good jab and then a low kick from Jones. He lands a hard knee to the mid section. DC comes forward and lands a pair of low kicks. He follows that up with a right hand. Jones replies with a low kick of his own. Cormier circles and returns fire. Jones with a good kick to the body. He follows that up with an elbow. Jones with a nice right hand over the top. Jones with a left hand and then a front kick. DC replies with a low kick. Jones comes over the top with an elbow. DC misses with a wild right but then lands a low kick. Jones fires back with a low kick of his own. DC with a nice left hand. He presses forward and lands a right. Jones fires back with a pair of left hands. DC comes forward and lands a pair of big punches. Jones showboats but then eats a right hand. Cormier with some low kicks and then one to the body. Jones returns fire with a low kick. Round one comes to an end.

In April of 2016, Jon Jones and Ovince Saint-Preux stepped into the Octagon together to fight for the interim light heavyweight title after light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was forced out of the fight on short notice. Jones accepted a short notice fight against Saint-Preux, something he admitted he normally wouldn’t have done. And proceeded to pick up a lopsided win over the streaking contender. Despite that, many felt as if Jones coasted through the fight, opting to play it safe rather than attempt to finish OSP.

Thursday afternoon at the UFC 214 media day, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, and former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones came face to face for yet another heated staredown ahead of their scrap on Saturday. Jon Jones, in an effort to make a statement about the physique of Cormier, hit the stage shirtless for the staredown. When the two men came face to face, they remained silent for most of the staredown as they locked eyes. Jones then appeared to say something to Cormier under his breath, that was not picked up by cameras.
