Jon Jones has some advice for Ronda Rousey following her loss at UFC 207

Chris Taylor - December 31, 2016

Ronda Rousey (12-2 MMA) made her highly anticipated return to the octagon in the main event of last night’s UFC 207 fight card in Las Vegas where she challenged current UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes for the title she used to posses. Unfortunately for fans of “Rowdy”, the fight didn’t go her way whatsoever, as she was overwhelmed by a barrage of early punches from “The Lioness” which led to a shocking 48-second TKO loss.

Jon Jones waiting for the right stylistic matchup to 'go to heavyweight and challenge for that title'

Russell Ess - December 27, 2016

With Conor McGregor recently being just the third fighter in history to win titles in two separate UFC weight classes behind Randy Couture and BJ Penn, “The Notorious” was the first fighter to be a concurrent two-weight UFC champion. Although his time as the double champ was short lived with his deal in place with Dana White on relinquishing a UFC title, another legendary fighter is looking to add himself to the list of two-weight UFC world champions. “I do want to challenge for the heavyweight title, but I’m waiting for the perfect opponent,” said former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast (transcribed by MMA Junkie). “I’ve beaten up a lot of heavyweights, man. Only people who train at (Jackson-Wink MMA) have seen that. I’ve picked up a lot of heavyweights. I’ve slammed a lot of heavyweights.

Mike Winkeljohn takes partial blame for Jon Jones woes outside of cage

bjpenndotcom - December 24, 2016

While former UFC light heavyweight champion, and arguable pound for pound kingpin Jon Jones is without a doubt one of the greatest fighters of all time, Jones’ struggles outside of the Octagon have tarnished his legacy in the eyes of some. While Jones was cleared of any wrong-doing in the case of his failed random out-of-competition drug test back in July that resulted in his being pulled from his UFC 200 headlining scrap just 48 hours before fight-night, ‘Bones’ is still serving a one-year suspension for the situation despite the fact that the failed drug test was the result of a tainted supplement.

Daniel Cormier gives update on timetable for return

bjpenndotcom - December 17, 2016

Earlier this month, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier was set to fight top ranked light heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson in the main event of UFC 206. The fight was not only set to be a highly anticipated rematch, but would also serve as Cormier’s second title defense. Unfortunately, several weeks before the fight, Cormier was forced to pull out of the fight with a torn adductor in his groin, and as a result the fight was scrapped. The initial timetable for Cormier’s return, indicated that the champ could be making his return in spring of 2017, however there had been no official word from the champ himself on what course of action he would take to recover from the injury.

Dana White gives timeframe for the return of Jon Jones

Tom Taylor - December 6, 2016

Though Jon Jones stands out as one of the best mixed martial artists ever, he’s had an undeniably rough few years. His recent career has been marred by everything from cocaine use to a hit-and-run involving a pregnant woman. Earlier this year, of course, it looked like a matured Jones might finally be getting his life back on track. Though it was far from his best performance, he made a successful return to action, defeating late-replacement Ovince St. Preux to win the UFC interim light heavyweight title. With this win in the books, Jones was then pencilled in for a title unifying rematch with Daniel Cormier, who has been sitting on the divisional throne in his stead. The two were expected to share the main event honors of the landmark UFC 200 in July.

Jon Jones on UFC return: "The story can't end like this"

bjpenndotcom - December 2, 2016

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is currently serving a suspension for a failed random out-of-competition drug test back in June, which forced him out of his UFC 200 headlining scrap with Daniel Cormier just 48 hours before fight night. Jones maintained his innocence throughout USADA’s appeal process, and it was ultimately determined that the failed drug test was the result of a tainted supplement, which resulted in USADA handing the former champ a one year suspension retroactive to July, meaning Jones will be eligible to compete again on July 7th of 2017.

bjpenndotcom - November 30, 2016

On December 11th, former UFC light heavyweight champion, and pound for pound kingpin Jon Jones will return to competition to compete against former Olympian & MMA legend Dan Henderson at Submission Underground 2. bjpenndotcom - November 15, 2016

Throughout the course of the week leading up to UFC 205, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley were involved in several backstage ‘altercations’. While no punches were exchanged, the pair were forced to be separated by security on several occasions. The first incident was a very minor one, and occurred during the UFC 205 press conference on Thursday, setting the stage for several more interactions throughout the remainder of fight week. During the course of the press conference, after McGregor took then-lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez’ title belt, he stated that he was coming for all the belts on the stage, which included Woodley’s welterweight championship.

Dana White: Jon Jones will not headline any more UFC events

bjpenndotcom - November 11, 2016

This week, former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones was handed a 1-year suspension for his random out-of-competition drug testing failure back in June. The failed drug test unfortunately forced Jones out of his UFC 200 headlining scrap with Daniel Cormier just 48 hours before fight night. While things didn’t initially look good for Jones, the pound for pound kingpin maintained his innocence throughout the appeal process. Ultimately, a major breakthrough for Jones and his team came when UFC President Dana White revealed that it didn’t look like Jones took the substances everyone thought he did. White’s announcement was then followed up several weeks later by a report which revealed that Jones failed the drug test due to a tainted supplement. This week, it was revealed that Jones had been suspended for one year retroactive to July.

Jon Jones takes humorous approach to suspension with crying Michael Jordan profile picture

Russell Ess - November 9, 2016

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones did not get the exact result that was hoping for in his arbitration hearing for his Anti-Doping Policy violation sanction. In October, Jones was the first UFC fighter to go to arbitration over the sanction of his U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) violation that stemmed from an out-of-competition sample collected on June 16. Upon hearing the case, the three arbitrators from McLaren Global Sports Solutions all came to the conclusion that Jones be suspended from competition for the maximum penalty of his particular case, which was one year. The term started back on July 6, where Jones began his period of ineligibility while things were sorted out in his “full fair legal review process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed.”

bjpenndotcom - November 8, 2016

While former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones is widely believed to be the pound for pound kingpin in MMA, Jones has fought just once in nearly two years. After defeating Daniel Cormier in a highly anticipated grudge match in January of 2015, Jones was booked to defend his title against Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson later in the year. Unfortunately, Jones was involved in an infamous hit & run car accident that ultimately saw him stripped of the title, and pulled from the card. Ultimately, after Jones was stripped of the title and pulled from the card, Daniel Cormier stepped in to fight Johnson for the vacant light heavyweight championship, winning the fight via 3rd round submission to claim the vacant light heavyweight championship.
