Bellator MMA fighter Jordan Parsons passes away after tragic accident
Bellator MMA featherweight Jordan Parsons has passed away after he was hit in a hit-and-run accident in Florida over the weekend.
Bellator President Scott Coker released a statement on Wednesday following news of Parson’s death.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a dear member of the Bellator family, Jordan Parsons. Jordan was an exceptional athlete and a rising star in the sport. But more importantly, he was an exceptional young man. Jordan was hard-working, dedicated, intelligent, and a pleasure to be around. He represented all the reasons we love this sport. It is a terribly tragic loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and teammates.”
The accident occurred early Sunday morning in Delray, Florida and the suspect is still on the loose. The Delray Beach Police Department are on the lookout for a 2012 or 2013 silver range rover that struck Parsons on Sunday and released the following information on the department’s Facebook page:
DBPD is investigating a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning that left a 25-year-old mixed martial arts fighter with extreme injuries. DPBD’s Traffic Homicide Unit investigators say that the suspect vehicle is a silver Range Rover Sport. Pieces of the Range Rover left at the scene indicate it was built either in the year 2012 or in 2013. The driver side mirror is missing, and there will be damage to the driver’s side headlight and bumper area.
At 12:35 a.m. Sunday, the Range Rover was southbound on South Federal Highway as Jordan Paul Parsons was walking west across Federal at Lindell Boulevard. Parsons was on the south side of the intersection, walking in the crosswalk. The vehicle hit Parsons and fled, leaving him lying in the roadway. A nearby DBPD officer, Derek Chahine, arrived on scene very quickly and applied pressure to Parsons’ severe leg wound until Delray Beach Fire Rescue responded and transported Parsons to Delray Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.
It’s unclear at this early stage of the investigation who had the right of way. Investigators say Parsons was wearing headphones when he was hit and may not have heard the vehicle approaching. Anyone with information about this crash or the suspect vehicle is asked to please contact Office Dan Cramer at (561) 243-7800 or report anonymous tips to Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS (8477), online at www.crimestopperspbc.com or by texting tips@cspbc.com. Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
