UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington detailed why he is no longer interested in fighting his former friend and rival Jorge Masvidal. Covington and Masvidal were former teammates at American Top Team, but for the last few years, they have been bitter rivals. For whatever reason, however, the fight between these two has not been booked yet. Even though it seemed like the perfect TUF coaches’ matchup, the UFC chose to go in another direction. It seems as though not only is this fight not going to happen during the TUF format, but in general.

Boxing superstar Teofimo Lopez praised UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal, saying that he’s a big fan of the way “Gamebred” conducts himself. Lopez puts his lightweight belt on the line in June when he takes on George Kambosos Jr. With a 16-0 record as a professional boxer and coming off of an upset win over Vasyl Lomachenko, Lopez’s star has never been brighter. Ahead of his upcoming fight, Lopez was a guest on the “1, 2 with James and Kendrick” podcast and he was asked what he thinks about MMA fighters. Speaking to the hosts, Lopez was quick to point out that he’s a big fan of Masvidal, the UFC fighter who exploded into a true superstar over the last few years.

UFC welterweight superstar Jorge Masvidal reacted after the first-ever Gamebred Fighting Championship event was officially announced. Masvidal last month announced that he would be launching Gamebred FC, which is a bare-knuckle MMA promotion. We have seen bare-knuckle fighting make a rise in popularity over the last few years with organizations such as BKFC at the forefront, but we haven’t seen a bare-knuckle MMA promotion really take off. With Masvidal leading the way, the hope is that this first Gamebred FC event is the first of many events for the UFC welterweight star.

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal dropped two spots in the latest UFC rankings update after his recent loss at UFC 261. The latest rankings update dropped earlier this week, and Masvidal moved down two spots at 170lbs. While he was previously ranked No. 5 in the division, “Gamebred” has now dropped down to No. 7 overall, with Vicente Luque moving up to No. 5 and Michael Chiesa at No. 6. In addition to Masvidal dropping down two spots in the welterweight rankings, Neil Magny moved up to No. 8 in the division and Demian Maia dropped down to No. 9.

The UFC returned to a full capacity crowd on Saturday night in Jacksonville, Florida for UFC 261. The card saw three title fights as Kamaru Usman rematched Jorge Masvidal, Weili Zhang took on Rose Namajunas, and Valentina Shevchenko battled Jessica Andrade. The event was one of the better ones in recent memory and one title ended up changing hands. In the main event, Usman defended his belt with a second-round KO over Masvidal. Namajunas became the strawweight champ with a first-round KO over Zhang, and to no surprise, Shevchenko defended her strap with a TKO win over Andrade.

Former UFC welterweight Ben Askren reacted to seeing Jorge Masvidal get brutally knocked out by Kamaru Usman in the main event of UFC 261. Masvidal was caught clean with a straight right hand out of hell from Usman in the main event of UFC 261, and he was knocked out by follow-up punches on the ground. It was the first time we have seen Masvidal get knocked out in the UFC and it was just the second time in his entire MMA career that he was stopped with strikes after Rodrigo Damm did it in Sengoku over a decade ago. Masvidal is known for having an iron chin and being nearly impossible to put away, but as Usman showed at UFC 261, anyone can get finished.

UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman reacted to his follow up shots on Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261: “You know, those were super necessary.” Usman landed a right hand out of hell on the chin of Masvidal early in the second round that dropped “Gamebred” to the floor. Masvidal then rushed to the ground and landed several follow-up shots that left Masvidal on the ground cold. It was a nasty knockout, with the initial knockdown being brutal enough before the punches on the ground really put an end to Masvidal’s night as the champion Usman picked up yet another brutal knockout win.

These two met last July at UFC 251 with Usman winning a unanimous decision that night. A year later and they meet again for all the marbles.
