It is expected to be a big-selling pay-per-view and the fight has also seen a lot of betting action on it from fans. Currently, Paul is favored at the sportsbooks to get the win but Woodley is only a moderate underdog.

Jorge Masvidal books Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva to headline Gamebred Fighting Championship 2 event
Harry Kettle - August 19, 2021

In recent months Masvidal, who is coming off the back of consecutive defeats to Kamaru Usman, has opted to kickstart his own bare-knuckle promotion to run alongside his mixed martial arts career. Bare-knuckle is where “Gamebred” first cut his teeth in the combat sports realm and now, he wants to give fighters a chance to do the same.

Jorge Masvidal claims UFC rival Colby Covington has hired police for protection
Harry Kettle - July 30, 2021
Jorge Masvidal has claimed that Colby Covington has hired police for his own protection due to his rivalry with “Gamebred”. The former American Top Team friends and teammates have been throwing shots at one another for longer than most of us can remember. Covington hasn’t been afraid to throw his previous friendships from ATT well and truly under the bus, and while his Dustin Poirier feud has been nasty to watch, his encounters with Masvidal have seemingly cut even deeper.

Jorge Masvidal weighs in on a possible Poirier vs. Covington fight: “Colby will call the cops cause history always repeats itself”
Cole Shelton - July 28, 2021

For over a year now, Poirier and Covington have taken shots at one another and ‘The Diamond’ event said it was “on sight” when they saw each other next. Gilbert Burns reiterates callouts to Leon Edwards, Jorge Masvidal, and Nate Diaz
Adam D Martin - July 21, 2021
UFC welterweight contender Gilbert Burns reiterated his callouts to divisional rivals Leon Edwards, Jorge Masvidal, and Nate Diaz. Earlier this month at UFC 264, Burns defeated Stephen Thompson via unanimous decision, and then used his post-fight interview as an opportunity to call out Edwards, Masvidal, and Diaz. It’s been a few weeks since then and we haven’t heard any of these other fighters say they will accept Burns’ callout. That’s why “Durinho” took to his social media on Wednesday and once again called out Edwards, Masvidal, and Diaz for an upcoming fight.

Masvidal is coming off back-to-back losses to Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title and says he’s looking to return in the fall against any top-five opponent. His manager mentioned Nick Diaz and Colby Covington as possible options, but Diaz is targeted to return against Robbie Lawler while Covington will face Usman for the belt. With that, “Gamebred” says he wants to fight the winner of Burns-Thompson.

Dana White interested in booking Leon Edwards vs. Jorge Masvidal: "That's probably the fight to make"
Adam D Martin - July 7, 2021
UFC president Dana White says he is interested in booking Leon Edwards vs. Jorge Masvidal, suggesting “that’s probably the fight to make.” Edwards is unbeaten over his last 10 fights and wants to get the next title shot against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, but White has already said that Colby Covington is next in line for the champ. That means that Edwards will have to wait on the sidelines, potentially for the rest of the year, while Usman and Covington prepare for their rematch. Considering Edwards has only fought once in the last two years, having the Brit sit out on the sidelines following his recent win over Nate Diaz at UFC 263 seems like a bad idea.

Jorge Masvidal eyes comeback fight against Colby Covington or Nick Diaz
Cole Shelton - July 5, 2021

He said he wanted a top-ranked opponent and he’s sticking to that as he wants the rivalry fight against Colby Covington. Or, according to his manager, “Gamebred” is also interested in fighting Nick Diaz.

BKFC champion Luis Palomino calls for a rematch with Jorge Masvidal: “Remember I beat you in 2010, eight pounds heavy”
Adam D Martin - June 27, 2021
BKFC champion Luis Palomino called for a rematch with UFC superstar Jorge Masvidal, saying “remember I beat you in 2010, eight pounds heavy.” Palomino defeated Tyler Goodjohn via unanimous decision at BKFC 18 on Saturday night. The 40-year-old Miami native is now a perfect 4-0 in BKFC and is currently the promotion’s lightweight champion. During his MMA career, Palomino has fought at featherweight, lightweight, and even welterweight. While he has been doing well fighting at lower weights in BKFC, Palomino is open to fighting up at welterweight again, and it’s because he is looking to get a rematch against one of the UFC’s top superstars in the form of Masvidal.

Jorge Masvidal eyes end of year return against top-five opponent, claims Leon Edwards is "not a fighter"
Cole Shelton - June 17, 2021

Dana White open to booking Leon Edwards vs. Jorge Masvidal following UFC 263
Adam Martin - June 13, 2021
UFC president Dana White says he is open to booking a welterweight matchup between Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal following UFC 263. Edwards defeated Nate Diaz via unanimous decision at UFC 263 to extend his unbeaten streak to 10 fights in a row (9-0, 1 NC). However, White has remained adamant that the next title shot against UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman will go to Colby Covington next, not Edwards. With Edwards not being next in line for a title shot, that means that Edwards could potentially take another fight instead of waiting around. And if that’s the case, then one fighter that is available for a fight could be his rival Masvidal.

Colby Covington details why he is no longer interested in fighting Jorge Masvidal
Adam D Martin - June 3, 2021
UFC welterweight contender Colby Covington detailed why he is no longer interested in fighting his former friend and rival Jorge Masvidal. Covington and Masvidal were former teammates at American Top Team, but for the last few years, they have been bitter rivals. For whatever reason, however, the fight between these two has not been booked yet. Even though it seemed like the perfect TUF coaches’ matchup, the UFC chose to go in another direction. It seems as though not only is this fight not going to happen during the TUF format, but in general.

Masvidal last month announced that he would be launching Gamebred FC, which is a bare-knuckle MMA promotion. With Masvidal leading the way, the hope is that this first Gamebred FC event is the first of many events for the UFC welterweight star.
