It appears the UFC has had a backup plan in case either of Nate Diaz or Jorge Masvidal had to pull out of their UFC 244 main event. And, that backup plan is Leon Edwards. According to Chisanga Malata of Daily Star Sport, the UFC have been paying Edwards to be in a training camp and on standby for this fight.

However, earlier this afternoon ‘The Stockton Slugger’ took to Twitter where he announced that he had been flagged by USADA and thus would not be competing on the November 2 fight card at Madison Square Garden.

Stockton’s favourite son will fight Jorge Masvidal at Madison Square Garden with the BMF Championship on the line. Both men are coming off of fantastic victories, with Diaz defeating Anthony Pettis at UFC 241 and Masvidal knocking out Ben Askren at UFC 239.

Covington (15-1) has won his last seven fights and will challenge Kamaru Usman for the UFC Welterweight Championship at UFC 245 in December. Prior to that, however, one issue that needed to be resolved was the ongoing problems between himself and several members of ATT.

The former Bellator and ONE champion believes Diaz’ inactivity has affected his chances in the division.

Now, this incredible victory is being immortalized with a mural at American Top Team, Masvidal’s long-time gym. This Masvidal mural is being done artist Ross Baines. Baines has already painted a small-scale version of the image that will ultimately end up on the wall of American Top Team.

Since the callout, no one has asked Jorge Masvidal about the “West Coast Gangster” comment even when both fighters were across from each other, but during the most recent UFC event in Mexico City, Masvidal finally responded.

Speaking to the media ahead of yesterday’s UFC Mexico card, Masvidal explained why he’s not a fan of Usman’s fighting style. Apparently, it has nothing to do with Usman being a wrestler and more to do with the lack of finishes on the champ’s record.
