Barring injury, there's only one thing that would stop Jorge Masvidal from fighting Tyron Woodley this July
Tom Taylor - May 11, 2017
This Saturday, on the main card of a blockbuster UFC 211, Jorge Masvidal will battle Demian Maia in what appears to be a welterweight number one contender fight. If Masvidal wins this fight and earns a title shot, of course, his title shot would pit him against an old friend and training partner in Tyron Woodley. On a recent interview on BJ Penn Radio, Masvidal explained that, while fighting a former teammate for the title is not ideal, he’s prepared to do so if that’s what it comes to. During his segment on the show, Masvidal was also asked if he’d be willing to fight Woodley as soon as July. The champ, after all, been calling for a July title defense, but has had a difficult time finding a suitable opponent.

Jorge Masvidal discusses possible title fight with former teammate Tyron Woodley
Tom Taylor - May 11, 2017
This weekend, on the main card of UFC 211, Demian Maia will risk the welterweight title shot many fans feel he has already earned when he takes on dangerous contender Jorge Masvidal. In the opinion of welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, Maia’s accepting this fight was not a smart move. The champ has now said on several occasions that he believes Masvidal – his former American Top Team stablemate – will earn the win, and deprive Maia of his long-awaited shot. On the latest episode of BJ Penn Radio, Masvidal weighed in on these comments from Woodley, and on the possibility of fighting his former teammate for the belt.

Jorge Masvidal stands up for Anderson Silva
bjpenndotcom - May 11, 2017
Former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva has been engaged in a very public dispute with his employers recently prior to the announcement that Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre wasn’t going to happen. Silva called for the UFC to create an interim middleweight title for he and Yoel Romero to fight over while Bisping and St-Pierre fought for the middleweight title. While the UFC ultimately ended up scrapping the fight between Bisping and GSP, Silva went as far as to threaten to retire if the UFC didn’t meet his demands.

Jorge Masvidal on Demian Maia: I think I'm better than him in MMA grappling
Tom Taylor - May 11, 2017
This weekend, on the main card of the stacked UFC 211, welterweight star Jorge Masvidal will face one of the trickiest tests of his career in Demian Maia, a man widely considered the welterweight division’s number one contender. Maia’s strengths, of course, are no secret. The Brazilian is one of the best grapplers in MMA, if not the best outright. Despite Maia’s incredible skill on the mat, however, Masvidal is not particularly panicked about any prospective grappling exchanges with him. In fact, he believes he’s the better MMA grappler overall. The Cuban-American contender made this claim on Wednesday’s edition of BJ Penn Radio.

Jorge Masvidal promises to defeat Demian Maia with X-rated violence
Tom Taylor - May 10, 2017
This weekend, on the main card of a stacked UFC 211, fan favorite welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal will face one of the trickiest tests of his career in top contender Demian Maia. From the early vantage point, the winner of this fight looks like a shoo-in for the next shot at welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Though Maia represents an incredibly difficult test, Masvidal is all confidence heading into the fight. In an interview with Fox Sports, the Cuban-American star explained that his victory over the Brazilian will be so decisive that, if it were a movie, it would require a XXX rating.

Jorge Masvidal bashes "faker" Michael Bisping, says nobody listens to his podcast
Tom Taylor - May 3, 2017
Since he became the UFC middleweight champion with a shocking, first-round knockout of Luke Rockhold, Michael Bisping has generated quite a bit of controversy for chasing lucrative “money fights” over fights with the middleweight division’s top contenders. His taking fights with opponents like Dan Henderson and Georges St-Pierre has generated backlash from fighters like Yoel Romero, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Luke Rockhold, Chris Weidman, Tyron Woodley, and others. You can now add streaking welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal to the list of fighters who are unimpressed by Bisping’s alleged unwillingness to fight the middleweight division’s top contenders. On Tuesday night, Masvidal took to Twitter explaining that he’d received some heat from Bisping for not wanting to be on his “14 person total audience” podcast, Believe You Me. Apparently, this prompted a response from Bisping. This response drove Masvidal to call Bisping out for “avoiding everybody that’s a threat” and being the “only champ that does not fight top ten contenders.”

Jorge Masvidal still has $200,000 sitting aside for a bet with Dana White
Russell Ess - April 27, 2017
“Dana White, bring me somebody that can beat me. I got $200K. You can’t find nobody that can beat me.” That is the challenge Jorge Masvidal threw out to UFC President Dana White during his post-fight Octagon interview following his big win over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC on FOX 23 back in January.

Jorge Masvidal doesn't think Nick Diaz should get an immediate title shot upon his return
Tom Taylor - April 27, 2017
In a few short weeks, on the main card of the stacked UFC 211, Jorge Masvidal will take on streaking jiu jitsu specialist Demian Maia in what appears to be a welterweight number one contender fight. Yet while it would be near impossible to deny that the winner of this fight deserve the next shot at reigning champ Tyron Woodley, it’s also possible that they get skipped over, should MMA star Nick Diaz return to competition. According to Masvidal, however, this would not exactly be fair. Diaz, after all, has not fought since his infamous 2015 no contest with Anderson Silva – which occurred at middleweight – and has not won since October 2011, when he out-gunned BJ Penn.

Tyron Woodley expects Demian Maia to lose his spot in line after "nightmare" matchup at UFC 211
Chris Taylor - April 13, 2017

Jorge Masvidal: GSP's success will depend on how he's affected by USADA
Tom Taylor - March 30, 2017
Later this year, UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping will attempt to defend his title against returning welterweight legend Georges St-Pierre – that is, unless Bisping decides to give the title shot back to Yoel Romero, or fight Tyron Woodley instead. Given that St-Pierre has never fought at middleweight before, his being given a title shot over legitimate contenders like Romero and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza was immediately controversial. Why the UFC went this direction, of course, is easy to understand. They’re trying to make some big money. At least, that’s what streaking welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal thinks.

Jorge Masvidal gives prediction for UFC 211 showdown with Demian Maia
Tom Taylor - March 30, 2017
Back in January, UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal scored a career-altering knockout win over the streaking Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. This win sent the American Top Team staple rocketing up the UFC welterweight rankings. In the wake of this win, Masvidal quickly began calling for a fight with top welterweight contender Demian Maia. While Maia initially seemed reluctant to accept this fight, stating that he would prefer to wait for a shot at the title, he eventually signed on the dotted line. The two welterweights will go at it on the main card of UFC 211 this May 13.

Jorge Masvidal has a message for Dana White following UFC 211 booking
Tom Taylor - March 1, 2017
When Jorge Masvidal stepped onto the canvas with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in January, he was counted out by a good portion of the fight game. Cowboy, after all, had scored violent finishes in his first four fights as a welterweight, and had a good deal of momentum on his side as a result. In the end, Masvidal would dominate this fight, nearly finishing Cowboy in the first, and putting him away for good in the second.

Contrary to Maia-Masvidal reports, Cub Swanson says he's still in the UFC Nashville main event
Tom Taylor - February 28, 2017
Late last week, reports of a massive welterweight contender bout between Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal began to surface. Though this fight has not yet been announced by the UFC, these reports suggested that this fight would serve as the main event of the UFC’s April 22 trip to Nashville, Tennessee. If this was indeed the case, this would mean that Cub Swanson’s recently announced featherweight battle with Artem Lobov would not serve as the main event, as originally expected. According to Swanson himself, however, his fight with Lobov will still serve as Nashville’s main event. The featherweight star has apparently confirmed this with the UFC.
