UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo is currently gearing up for what he hopes will be his first successful title defense as the reigning featherweight champion. In the process of defending his belt for the first time, Aldo is hoping to unify the featherweight and interim featherweight titles. Ahead of the fight, Aldo’s opponent, UFC interim featherweight champion Max Holloway, got his first taste of the Brazilian crowd at Thursday’s open workouts when the crowd chanted ‘You will die’ in Portuguese. While Holloway had no problem embracing the chant, even going as far as to chant it with the crowd, Jose Aldo thinks come fight night ‘Blessed’ is in for a rude awakening.

Back at UFC 194, undisputed UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo stepped into the Octagon with interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor for a highly anticipated showdown for the undisputed featherweight title. Leading up to the fight, the MMA community was torn on their predictions for the fight. While some felt Aldo’s reign of dominance would continue, others believed that McGregor would tear through Aldo like he had so many past opponents. When the pair finally stepped into the Octagon, it took McGregor just 13 seconds to end Aldo’s reign as champion and secure the featherweight title.

Joe Rogan explains why he believes Jose Aldo's legacy will always be tarnished

Tom Taylor - May 31, 2017

Jose Aldo is one of the pound-for-pound best fighters on the planet, and really, one of the best fighters of all time. No matter how you feel about him, there’s really no denying these things. In the opinion of UFC commentator Joe Rogan, however, Aldo’s legacy as one of the best ever will always be tarnished by one thing: his 13-second, 2015 knockout loss to Conor McGregor. Though Aldo has since regained the undisputed featherweight title that he lost to McGregor that night (he did so without avenging his loss to McGregor), that knockout loss stands out as the one blip in an otherwise dominant career.

bjpenndotcom - May 25, 2017

At UFC 194, interim featherweight champion Conor McGregor stepped into the Octagon with undisputed champion Jose Aldo for a highly anticipated showdown that saw McGregor not only win UFC gold, but end the lengthy reign of Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds. Following the loss, Aldo began to campaign for a rematch against his rival. While at one point he toyed with the idea of following McGregor to lightweight in order to contend for the Irish superstar’s 155 pound title, he ultimately fought Frankie Edgar at UFC 200 to win the interim title. Interestingly enough, after McGregor relinquished the featherweight title, Jose Aldo was promoted from interim champion to undisputed champion.
