Jose Aldo calls TJ Dillashaw's past drug test failures "just a mistake," still considers him a champion

UFC legend Jose Aldo called TJ Dillashaw’s past drug test failures “a mistake” and says he still considers him a champion in MMA. Dillashaw has not fought since January 2019 when he suffered a TKO loss to Henry Cejudo at UFC on ESPN+ 1. Following that fight, Dillashaw tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs and he has missed the last two years of action. Next month, Dillashaw will finally be able to return to the Octagon after serving his two-year USADA suspension, and already several UFC fighters have called him out for his return.

UFC bantamweight contender Jose Aldo suggested four potential opponents for his next fight inside the Octagon, including Dominick Cruz. Aldo defeated Marlon Vera via unanimous decision in the co-main event of Saturday’s UFC Vegas 17 event. It was a huge win for Aldo, who needed to get back in the victory column badly after losing his last three fights in a row. By beating Vera, Aldo proved that he belongs in the top-10 at 135lbs, and it puts him in line for a big fight his next time out. Aldo called out former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw in his post-fight interview after beating Vera, and now he has a few other names to add to the list.

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo released a statement following his unanimous decision win over Marlon Vera at UFC Vegas 17. Coming into the Aldo fight off of three straight losses, Aldo’s back was up against the proverbial wall in this fight. After getting stopped in vicious fashion by Petr Yan in their bantamweight title fight at UFC 251, it didn’t look like Aldo had much left in the tank after moving down to bantamweight at this latter stage of his career. On Saturday night, Aldo dispelled the myth that he is nearing the end of the road as he was able to earn a unanimous decision against Vera, one of the 135lbs division’s hottest fighters.

Bantamweight contender Jose Aldo says he will never fight for another MMA promotion outside the UFC, saying “It is not a question of money.” Aldo returns to the Octagon this Saturday at UFC Vegas 17 when he takes on the surging Marlon Vera in the evening’s co-main event. For Aldo, this is an extremely important fight. The former UFC featherweight champion has fallen on hard times as of late, dropping three straight fights. With the UFC cutting 60 fighters from its roster and with fellow Brazilians such as Junior dos Santos and Ronaldo Souza likely exiting the Octagon, some have suggested Aldo could also be released with a loss to Vera.

Veteran UFC featherweight Cub Swanson says he is open to cross-divisional fights with Anthony Pettis, Urijah Faber, and Jose Aldo. Swanson’s return to the Octagon was recently announced as he will take on Daniel Pineda next month at UFC 256. Swanson has been a member of the UFC roster since 2011 and has been one of the top-15 ranked fighters in the division for most of that time. However, he suffered a four-fight losing skid between 2017 and 2019 before finally snapping it with a “Fight of the Night” decision win over Kron Gracie last fall.

Originally, Aldo and Vera were expected to fight this Saturday at UFC 255, however, the fight was never made official. Now, multiple sources told BJPENN.com that the fight has been rebooked for December 19 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the main event of the stacked UFC 251 card on Fight Island, Kamaru Usman was looking to defend his welterweight title against Jorge Masvidal. The co-main attraction saw Alex Volkanovski and Max Holloway have their immediate rematch for the featherweight strap. And, in the third and final title fight Petr Yan took on Jose Aldo for the promotions vacant bantamweight strap. In the end, Usman defended his belt for the second time in dominant fashion, winning all five rounds on two judges scorecards. In the co-main, Volkanovski narrowly edged out a split decision win, and Yan became the new Bantamweight champion with a fifth-round TKO win over Aldo.

Like many fight fans, UFC commentator Joe Rogan was disgusted to watch Petr Yan deliver unnecessary punishment to Jose Aldo at UFC 251. Although it was no fault of the newly crowned Russian champion in Yan, the referee allowed Petr to tee off on a seemingly helpless Aldo for almost two minutes before finally stepping in to stop the contest.
