Jose Aldo discusses his meeting with Dana White and the UFC

Current UFC interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo met with Dana White and UFC officials this afternoon in Las Vegas to discuss his fighting future.

Immediately following the meeting, which took place at UFC headquarters, Aldo was interviewed by ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. Here is what the Brazilian legend had to say:

“It was great. It was a good conversation. We came in here knowing what we were coming in to. We knew what to expect. It went exactly as expected. I want to thank Dana, I want to thank Sean Shelby as they have always been respectful of my career. So it was good.”

Brett asked Aldo if a resolution was made?

“I didn’t come here just because I wanted to cancel my contract or to be released. I came here because I had a lot on my chest and I had a lot of things I wanted to say. I thought that saying them in person was the professional approach and proper approach to take with them. So I want to thank them for their time and the opportunity to get things off my chest. What the future will hold nobody knows. We will have to wait and see.”

Aldo was asked if he believes he will fight for the UFC again to which he responded.

“At this moment nobody knows. I don’t know. I came here from Brazil with my ideas already firmly fixed in my head. My current intention is to no longer fight. That hasn’t changed. That is how I felt when I left Brazil and that is how I feel here today. But like I said with the future, nobody knows.”

“I think we had a good first conversation today. I think there is probably a few more conversations that will have to happen down the road. But we will see.”

Aldo was asked what he needs to hash out with the UFC.

“Yea I think a lot of my reasons and my feelings and motivations are from things I discussed with my coach and with my family. You know the team that I have and the professionals around me. Those are issues that will remain between us. Today I am happy that I got the opportunity to talk to Dana face to face and you know feel like a weight has been lifted. I got to say everything I wanted to say and that is it. We will see what the future holds.” he replied.

Brett asked Aldo if he plans on challenging his current contractual status.

“No. None. There is no reason to do that. I am not that kind of guy you know. I’m a man. I came here. Nobody made me come here. I wanted to come here and have a face to face conversation, man to man, and make my feelings known.”
