VIDEO | Jose Aldo Still Working Hard in the Gym Despite Retirement Talk
Earlier this year, on the main card of UFC 200, former featherweight champion Jose Aldo rebounded from a 13-second knockout loss to Conor McGregor with a unanimous win over the talented Frankie Edgar. With the win, Aldo claimed the interim featherweight title, the creation of which was supposed to keep the division moving while McGregor tested his mettle in heavier divisions.
Evidently, Aldo was under the impression that a win at UFC 200 would earn him a rematch with McGregor. Unfortunately for him, this rematch failed to materialize, as McGregor immediately set his sights on a lightweight title fight with Eddie Alvarez after evening his score with Nate Diaz.
When it was announced that McGregor would be fighting Alvarez rather than returning to the featherweight division, Aldo became incredibly disgruntled with the state of the UFC. In this disgruntled state, the Brazilian legend went so far as to request a release from his UFC contract.
Shortly after this surprising request, Aldo met with the UFC brass in Las Vegas to try to smooth things over. Apparently, however, these efforts were not fruitful, as the interim champ still seems quite aggravated with the state of things.
Despite his disappointment with the way things are being run Aldo is still keeping his weapons war-ready. On Monday afternoon, the Brazilian dynamo uploaded footage of himself and training partner Emerson Falcão doing some light sparring and drills. That footage can be viewed at the top of this post.
Do you think Aldo is reconsidering his choice to retire, and perhaps shifting his focus to the winner of UFC 206’s recently announced Max Holloway vs. Anthony Pettis bout? Sound off, PENN Nation!
