‘JDS’ is not happy that the UFC is allowing “scared” Stipe Miocic to take a break

Today, the UFC heavyweight division is ruled by Croatian-American destroyer Stipe Miocic. Miocic won the title back in May, when he flatlined an overaggressive Fabricio Werdum with a brilliantly placed punch. The heavyweight king then made a successful defense of his title in September, when he delivered his third straight first-round KO against decorated veteran Alistair Overeem.

In the wake of his knockout of Overeem, Miocic has elected to take a bit of time off to recharge his batteries. While he does so, the heavyweight division’s highest ranked contenders, Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez, will battle for a shot at him when he’s ready to return.

Unfortunately, this arrangement doesn’t sit well with former champion Junior Dos Santos, who happens to be the last man to defeat Miocic.

In late November, the Brazilian bomber issued one of the most courteous callouts of all time, challenging Miocic to a fight while we wait for Velasquez and Werdum to settle their differences.

“Hey [Stipe Miocic] enjoy Thanksgiving in your new home- hope it’s filled with great food & friends,” Dos Santos said in this initial callout. “Let’s fight after the holidays? Brooklyn? [Let me know].”

Unfortunately for Dos Santos, this ever-so-diplomatic callout went unanswered. Having been given the cold shoulder, his demeanour has now changed considerably.

When reminded by a fan that Miocic is waiting for the winner of Werdum and Velasquez, Dos Santos went off on the champ for taking a break, and on the UFC for allowing him to hold up the division by doing so.

“That’s bullsh*t,” the former champ said. “The whole [f*cking] division is stopped because [the UFC] is allowing certain scared athletes to do [whatever] they want to.”

Needless to say, Dos Santos is not happy that he’s been left on the shelf for so long. Given that he hasn’t fought since he defeated Ben Rothwell in April, and that he’s been healthy since late August, that’s certainly understandable.

Do you think Dos Santos deserves a crack at Miocic’s heavyweight title? Sound off, PENN Nation!
