Junior dos Santos praises USADA
Junior dos Santos believes that USADA is the best thing to happen to the heavyweight division. In a weight class where guys are testing for performance enhancing drugs left and right, the former heavyweight champion sounded off on the topic and praised the UFC’s new drug testing policy.
“Thank you for USADA! They are doing a great job,” dos Santos said on Tuesday’s edition of the MMA Hour. “We want to know who is the real champion, not those fake performances that we were seeing (for some time).”
“This is our life, we spend our money, all our time into this, and our lives are all about fighting. Then we get in there against guys with fake results against you. It’s a really bad situation, I hope USADA can (continue) to clean up the sport.”
The UFC began using the U.S Anti-Doping Agency back in June of 2015, at a time when failed PED tests were becoming a glaring problem within the promotion. After several high-profile fighters came back with dirty urine, USADA was then hired to conduct both out-of competition as well as in-competition drug testing to all UFC athletes, at any time and without any warning.
Dos Santos agrees with his one-time opponent Mark Hunt, who just lost to Brock Lesnar at UFC 200. Lesnar, along with two other of Hunt’s recent opponents, all tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. Hunt has been extremely vocal in cleaning up the sport, going so far as to demand compensation from Lesnar’s fight purse following the news of Brock’s two failed drug tests
“C’mon man! Brock made $2.5 million (at UFC 200)! It was a terrible thing for Mark and his family. He should be (compensated for Brock’s failed tests).”
