Justin Gaethje ‘suspended indefinitely’ after beating Brian Foster at WSOF 29
Sometimes strange things happen in the world of MMA.
WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje won a decisive first round TKO over his WSOF 29 opponent Brian Foster at the Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley, CO on March 12th. However, Gaethje was suspended indefinitely by the Colorado State Boxing Commission for unsportsmanlike conduct, celebrating after his exciting win over Foster, according to The MMA Report.
From The MMA Report:
According to Colorado State Boxing Commission Director Josef Mason, Gaethje’s suspension was due to the fighter jumping on the cage and Gaethje was [sic] previous warned about this prior to the event in written correspondence.
However, MMA Fighting received an update from Josef Mason, executive director of the Colorado State Boxing Commission and apparently Gaethje being “suspended indefinitely” really meant one day.
From MMA Fighting:
Mason told MMA Fighting on Wednesday that the suspension was meant to be a warning to both Gaethje and future fighters in Colorado about the dangers of performing high-flying acrobatics off the cage. Mason stressed that Gaethje’s celebration put the safety of not only fighters at risk, but also any state officials and event workers present inside the cage.
According to Mason, the CSBC’s plan was always to rescind the suspension once Mason had a chance to explain the situation to Gaethje. After speaking late Tuesday, that promise was kept and Gaethje was medically cleared by the commission.
