Last Saturday night, Kai Kara-France put his name on the map in a big way by spoiling Cody Garbrandt’s big flyweight debut. It was supposed to be a moment of rejuvenation for the former bantamweight king but instead, Kara-France put a first round beating on him before Herb Dean stepped in and put an end to proceedings.

Moreno took the MMA world by storm earlier this year when he submitted his archrival, Deivieson Figueiredo, via third-round rear-naked choke to win the UFC flyweight title. As the division’s champion, Moreno has to always keep a close eye on what else is happening in the 125lbs division. At UFC 269, there was a huge flyweight fight between the former bantamweight champion Garbrandt and one of the top contenders in the weight class in Kara-France. Although Garbrandt was a slight betting favorite heading into the fight, it was Kara-France who beat the odds as the underdog by knocking out Garbrandt in round one.

Watch UFC bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley react live to seeing former divisional champion Cody Garbrandt getting KOed at UFC 269. Garbrandt was starched by Kai Kara-France in the first round of their flyweight fight on the UFC 269 undercard. The former UFC bantamweight champion Garbrandt’s chin has always been a big question mark, but at 125lbs his durability issues are even more prominent as he was dropped twice in this fight en route to the TKO stoppage. UFC flyweight contender Kai Kara-France reacted after brutally knocking out former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt at UFC 269. Kara-France entered the fight as the underdog despite being much more proven in the UFC flyweight division. As Garbrandt is a former UFC champ, he got the respect of coming into this fight as a small betting favorite. However, it was apparent quickly that the odds were wrong and that this was Kara-France’s fight to lose. Needed just one round to get the job done, Kara-France dropped Garbrandt twice with punches before finishing him via TKO.

The Octagon remained in Nevada for tonight’s UFC 269 event, a fourteen-bout fight card headlined by Charles Oliveira vs. Dustin Poirier. The highly anticipated lightweight title fight produced one of the craziest opening rounds in UFC history. Dustin Poirier was able to drop Charles Oliveira on two occasions and appeared to be cruising towards his much desired title win. However, in round two ‘Do Bronx’ was able to score an early takedown and road out the round on top while dropping elbows. Then, in round three, Oliveira was able to take the back of ‘The Diamond’ and promptly locked in a rear-naked choke to finish the contest (see that here).

Cody Garbrandt will be making the drop to flyweight after all. After Garbrandt lost to Rob Font in May he hinted at a drop to flyweight. He was supposed to fight Deiveson Figueiredo for the belt at UFC 255 last year but was forced out of the bout. Now, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, the former bantamweight champion will face Kai Kara-France on December 11. At this time, it’s uncertain whether that will be a pay-per-view event or just a Fight Night. The location of the event is also unknown.

City Kickboxing has released a statement confirming the death of amateur MMA fighter Fau Vake after a week in critical condition. Vake was admitted to hospital due to injuries suffered from an assault last Sunday morning in Auckland, with his teammates and coaches all being by his side in the days since – including Eugene Bareman and Israel Adesanya.

Kamaru Usman says Jorge Masvidal is only fighting for the belt because he chose him. Usman and Masvidal fought back at UFC 251 in July, in a fight, “Gamebred” took on six days’ notice. Usman ended up winning a clear-cut decision, but after the champ scored a TKO win over Gilbert Burns, he called for the rematch with Masvidal as he wanted to finish him this time around.

Kai Kara-France was forced to live at City Kickboxing in order to train for his UFC 253 fight against Brandon Royval. With the COVID-19 pandemic forcing New Zealand to lockdown again, Eugene Bareman got Kara-France, Israel Adesanya, Shane Young, and Brad Riddell to bring their mattresses and live at the gym in order to train. After weeks of doing that, the CKB team left for Fight Island which adds confidence for Kai Kara-France.

Yet, for a bit, many didn’t think it would happen after he fought just two months ago at UFC 245. There, he lost to Brandon Moreno. Since then, he quickly reflected on the fight and knows he made some mistakes.
