Kamaru Usman on Colby Covington: “I truly want to put my hands through his face”

Kamaru Usman is one of the top welterweights in the world, situated amongst other stars like UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, recent title challenger Darren Till, and former interim champion Colby Covington.

Interestingly, Usman says he has a lot of respect for both Woodley and Till — to the point that if he had to fight either man, it would be purely business, with no ill-will involved. If he had the chance to fight Covington, however, Usman says it would be far more than just business, as he’s developed some real animus toward his rival.

“That’s more than business,” Kamaru Usman told the media ahead of last Saturday’s UFC 228 card. “That’s good business — after I personally beat his ass. That one’s a little added bonus. There’s not one guy in the UFC that I can say that I have negative feelings towards, except Colby Covington. I truly want to put my hands through his face. That’s a guy that… the world would be watching as well. There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t get a message, whether it’s Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter saying ‘man I can’t wait for you to kill Colby Covington.'”

Kamaru Usman last fought in May, when he dominated former welterweight and middleweight title challenger Demian Maia to a clear-cut unanimous decision victory. In his next most recent fight, Usman dominated Emil Meek to a similarly lopsided decision win. These wins were preceded by a KO of Sergio Moraes. Usman is currently an impressive 13-1 overall and 8-0 in the UFC. He has not lost since his second pro bout in May of 2013.
