VIDEO | Kamaru Usman and manager Ali Abdelaziz get into brawl with fan at PFL 1
Is it becoming a trend for fighters to get into fights in the crowds of events for different organizations than their own?
Just last month, UFC lightweight veterans Nate Diaz and Clay Guida got into quite the scuffle at a Combate Americas event that has resulted in Diaz being put under investigation for alleged battery. Now less than a month later, the Professional Fighters League’s first event to kick off their million dollar tournaments has fallen victim to an in-crowd scuffle.
For reasons unknown, top-ranked UFC welterweight Kamaru Usman and his manager, Ali Abdelaziz got into it with a fan at PFL 1 as evidenced by the video above. The fan seems visibly upset as he tries to push towards Usman and Abdelaziz with the two reacting angrily before the fan attacked.
Usman just recently earned the biggest win of his professional career when he defeated Demian Maia by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Chile.
Abdelaziz is one of MMA’s top managers as he works with many of the world’s best fighters such as UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Marlon Moraes, Cody Garbrandt, Henry Cejudo and many others.
Formerly known as the World Series of Fighting, this isn’t the PFL’s first time having UFC fighters involved in altercations in their crowds.
A few years ago, the Diaz brothers attended an event as did the likes of Nurmagomedov who had family members competing that night. For one reason or another, things got hostile but not to the extent of Diaz or Usman’s recent incidents.
Who knows if anything will come from this as can be said for Diaz’ Combate Americas incident but as Gus Johnson once said at the most infamous MMA brawl a long eight years ago…” sometimes these things happen in MMA”.
