"Motivated and happy" Vitor Belfort looking forward to Kelvin Gastelum fight
bjpenndotcom - January 21, 2017
Despite being on a 2-fight skid that has seen him drop back to back TKO losses, MMA legend Vitor Belfort remains a top 10 ranked middleweight on the UFC’s official roster. After going 0-2 over the course of 2016, reports surfaced that Belfort was going to retire following his UFC 204 loss to Gegard Mousasi, however he then announced that he wasn’t retiring, he was merely looking to return to the Octagon as ‘The Phenom’ and return to the win column in 2017.

Kelvin Gastelum hopes to be a force at middleweight and welterweight
Tom Taylor - January 8, 2017
Kelvin Gastelum is one of the best welterweights on the planet, but there’s a definite asterisk attached to that statement. The young contender has missed the division’s 170-pound weight limit three times, most recently in November, when he was so far over weight for a planned bout with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone that he didn’t even bother stepping onto the scale. After this massive weigh in miss, Gastelum was sent packing to the middleweight division, where he recently scored a huge win over an elite foe in Tim Kennedy. In the wake of this win, Gastelum has now been pencilled in for a bout with Vitor Belfort in Brazil. If he wins it, he’ll find himself firmly embedded in the UFC middleweight top-15 – but don’t expect that to keep him in the division.

One of the most exciting of these scheduled fights was one between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Kelvin Gastelum, which was to occur at welterweight. When Gastelum was so over weight for the bout that he didn’t even bother stepping on the scale to weigh in, however, it was scrapped and removed from the card.

Dana White on Gastelum's Weigh-In Miss: I'll Never Let Him Fight at 170 Again
Tom Taylor - November 11, 2016
Earlier this morning, UFC 205‘s stacked main card took a significant hit when welterweight contender Kelvin Gastelum failed to make weight for his planned bout with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Though weigh-in misses do not typically result in the cancelation of a fight outright, Gastelum’s was severe enough that it forced him off the card altogether, leaving Cowboy without an opponent, and depriving fans of a highly anticipated fight. This weight related slip up is unfortunately not Gastelum’s first. In his eight scheduled welterweight bouts with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the 25-year-old has missed weight 3 times, first for a 2014 bout with Nico Musoke, then for a 2015 bout with Tyron Woodley and most recently for this nixed bout with Cowboy. He also very nearly missed weight for a mid-2016 bout with Johny Hendricks.
