Kevin Holland has issued a statement after his backstage scuffle with Khamzat Chimaev forced Dana White to cancel today’s UFC 279 press conference. Holland participated in the event opposite his upcoming opponent Daniel Rodriguez. Once finished fielding questions from the media, ‘Trailblazer’ and ‘D-Rod’ made their way backstage so the next set of fighters could come on.

UFC welterweight Daniel Rodriguez is excited about his fight against Kevin Holland on Saturday. ‘D-Rod’ has been out of action since his fight with Kevin Lee in August 2021. In that outing, Rodriguez scored the biggest win of his career to date, defeating the former title challenger by decision. The victory moved the 35-year-old to 6-1 in the UFC octagon.

Kevin Holland is very familiar with Khamzat Chimaev’s habit of getting in the faces of UFC athletes on fight week. Back in September of 2020, Chimaev accosted him at the UFC fighter hotel, getting physical with ‘Trailblazer’ over an Instagram comment about wearing masks. “He only does this extra wannabe street s*** when the media is around,” Holland said during UFC 279 media day interviews. “Other than that, he doesn’t do it. When you guys aren’t around, he wants to do fist bumps and he wants to be your best friend. When you guys are around, he’s like, I’m going to rip your head off! You ain’t ripping s*** off dog, you just want a paycheck like the rest of these guys around here.”

UFC welterweight Kevin Holland says Khamzat Chimaev only acts gangster when cameras are around. ‘The Wolf’ is set to return to action in the main event of UFC 279 on Saturday. The bout will be a rare non-title pay-per-view main event, as Chimaev will face Nate Diaz. It’s the first headlining role for the welterweight contender.

After adding Tony Ferguson vs. Li Jingliang at welterweight, Holland took to Instagram on Wednesday to announce he will be facing Daniel Rodriguez at UFC 279.

The Nate Diaz saga has been ongoing for years now and with just one fight remaining on his current UFC deal, it seems as if the Stockton king is ready to move on to pastures new. Alas, he hasn’t been able to get a bout signed as of yet, with there seemingly being some difficulties between the two parties.

Holland, alongside two other men, quickly subdued the man and halted the active shooting. According to reports, the fighter saw two men struggling when he went up behind the shooter and choked him out. He then stayed at the scene until police arrived.
