Kevin Lee has already mapped out his post-fight callout of Conor McGregor
If Kevin Lee beats Tony Ferguson at UFC 216 this weekend, he’ll be crowned the UFC interim lightweight champion and establish himself as one of the most likely opponents for reigning lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
In the event that a win alone isn’t enough to coax the Irishman into a fight, Lee says he’s also preparing to cut a dynamite promo for a fight with McGregor in his post-fight Octagon interview. Lee admitted this plan on a recent episode of Big Brown Breakdown with Brendan Schaub.
“I’ve been quiet in the media about it, but come on, you know I’ve got something up my sleeve,” Lee told Brendan Schaub when asked if he was preparing a post-fight speech. “Come on.”
While Lee believes he could earn a fight with McGregor if he wins, he doesn’t believe McGregor will have any interest in fighting a victorious Ferguson.
“If Tony beats me, there’s no way in hell [McGregor] fights Tony,” he said. “Nobody wants to fight Tony. Yeah, it’s because Tony’s a weirdo, too, but it’s also because of Tony’s style. He’s difficult to prepare for, and he’s hard to fight because he can take such a shot. Conor don’t want that fight. If Tony wins, Conor will make him and Nate [Diaz]. If I win, then it’s me and Conor. That’s the way I see it. It’s the only way that makes sense, too.”
Whatever the case, Lee believes he and McGregor will ultimately cross paths – and that it might be wise for McGregor to accept the fight now before Lee enters his prime.
“If he was smart, he’d catch me while I’m young and not let me get into my prime,” Lee said. ” I’m not even in my prime yet.”
