Dillon Danis recalls old beef with Khabib Nurmagomedov, confident he can submit ‘The Eagle’
JiuJitsu wizard Dillon Danis has quickly become a familiar name to the combat sports community due to his training with UFC superstar Conor McGregor over the course of the past year.
While Danis has never competed in MMA, the JiuJitsu competitor has teased a jump to MMA over the course of the past several months, most recently calling out young UFC prospect Sage Northcutt for what he believes would be an “easy fight”. In addition, Danis has called for a grappling match with UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones, who recently submitted Dan Henderson at Submission Underground 2.
With talks of a potential Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov lightweight title fight currently taking over the combat sports community, Dillon Danis spoke to Submission Radio to discuss his old beef with ‘The Eagle’:
“Me and [Khabib] had a little bit of a beef when I was younger. When I was sixteen or seventeen, he used to come to a place in Jersey that I used to train at. His manager was the coach of my gym and he used to wear the stupid shirt that said “if Sambo was easy it would be called Jiu Jitsu” or something. I said okay let’s do it, let’s do a grappling match then and see how easy Jiu Jitsu is. And then never came to fruition. I don’t know what happened, if they told him or they didn’t tell him, but I told the guys, you tell him that I said let’s see how Jiu Jitsu is and I’ll show him. So it’s a stupid shirt he wears.”
According to Dillon Danis, he and ‘The Eagle’ haven’t seen one another in years, but that doesn’t mean there is any less tension between the pair. Leading up to UFC 205, where both McGregor and Nurmagomedov fought, Nurmagomedov’s friends and teammates apparently stared Danis down whenever they had the opportunity.
