Khabib Nurmagomedov missed out on a huge payday at UFC 209
Top UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov missed out on a huge payday at last night’s UFC 209 event in Las Vegas.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto announced on Twitter that “The Eagle” would have made a cool $500,000 win or lose if he had fought Tony Ferguson for the promotions interim lightweight title at UFC 209.
Khabib Nurmagomedov's disclosed purse would have been $500k/$0, Tony Ferguson $250k/$250k.

As for Tony Ferguson, “El Cucuy” received his ‘show money’ ($250,000) from the UFC after making weight for his proposed interim title fight with Khabib.
UFC 209 marked the third time that the UFC had attempted to book a lightweight fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.
Unfortunately for fight fans, a bout between “El Cucuy” and “The Eagle” appears to be cursed by the fight gods and the promotions president is understandably reluctant to book the fight again.
Dana White recently told reporters that Khabib will need some time to recover from his brutal weight cut which resulted in the Russian superstar being hospitalized after suffering sharp pains in the area of his kidneys and liver.
White added that he is unsure if fans will see Khabib Nurmagomedov fight in the lightweight division (155-pounds) ever again.
“He was having pains either where your kidneys are or your liver or something – I don’t know the exact specifics, but he was having pains,” White said. “He looked terrible. I don’t think there was any real damage done to it. When I say damage, I mean longterm. It’s going to take him a little while to recover from this weight cut.”
“I don’t know (what he should do). He got within six pounds and was in really rough shape. He’s going to have to take some time to recover from this weight cut, and then I don’t know what to do.”
