Michael Johnson following loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov: ‘I fought the best in division and the world’
Michael Johnson is going back to the drawing board following his submission loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 205 over the weekend.
Johnson was looking to climb his way up the lightweight rankings following his first round KO over Dustin Poirier at UFC Fight Night 94 back in September. However, current #2 UFC ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov had plans of his own.
Nurmagomedov put on another impressive performance with his aggressive grappling, control, and ground and pound in the fight with Johnson. In the third round, Nurmagomedov was able to submit his opponent with a kimura.
Johnson took to social media on Monday to give an update to his fans and also give a ton of praise to Nurmagomedov for his performance and skillset.
Johnson posted a photo of his injured eye and said, “Damage not to bad! From what went on for that amount of time lol. Thank you to all my loved ones and fans who have supported through my career and this fight! It wansnt my night but we live and learn and I was taught a very valuable lesson! I believe I fought the best in division and the world! He’ll be champ and I’m already plotting my road to revenge! I’ll be back stronger!! Stay tuned!! Thank you @khabib_nurmagomedov you truly will make me better! See you soon!!!”
The 24-0 undefeated Russian is looking for his UFC lightweight title shot and with Conor McGregor now holding the UFC featherweight and lightweight titles, we could see Nurmagomedov fight McGregor for the title. However, “The Notorious” announced after winning the UFC lightweight title by beating Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205 that he will be taking some time off with a baby on the way and demanding some equity in the UFC.
