In the lead-up to UFC 268, both Gaethje and Michael Chandler were vocal in saying this fight was a number one contender bout. They both certainly had a point as Gaethje was ranked two and Chandler was five. In the end, it was “The Highlight” who earned a clear-cut decision in one of the best fights of the year.

UFC bantamweight contender Jose Aldo revealed a planned 2016 superfight against former lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov that fell apart. Aldo spoke to MMAFighting.com in a recent interview and said that in 2016, the UFC came to him and offered a fight against Nurmagomedov. According to Aldo, however, “The Eagle” turned down the fight, and Aldo says he has no idea why he didn’t want it.

In the United States, Makhachev and Nurmagomedov train at AKA San Jose, so Swick is well versed in both men and their skills. While Nurmagomedov was for many years the best lightweight in the UFC, he retired from the sport earlier this year and now the other lightweight fighters have the opportunity to win the title. One of those fighters is Makhachev, who recently defeated Dan Hooker for his ninth straight win.

Nurmagomedov is the former UFC lightweight champion, but he vacated his belt earlier this year after officially announcing his retirement from MMA. With Nurmagomedov now on the sidelines, there have been many analysts who have said that Makhachev is the next lightweight champion. He has a fighting style that is similar to Nurmagomedov and so far in the UFC, he has been extremely dominant with a 9-1 record including an eight-fight win streak at the moment. On Saturday at UFC 267, Makhachev will look to defeat Hooker.

Former UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov praised Islam Makhachev ahead of UFC 267, saying “he’s top-10 in pound-for-pound right now.” Nurmagomerdov and Makhachev are longtime friends as well as training partners at American Kickboxing Academy. Nurmagomedov was the former UFC lightweight champion and is considered by many to be one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time. But he retired earlier this year, and he essentially passed the torch on to Makhachev to continue the legacy of Russian lightweight champions. There have been many who have said that Makhachev has what it takes to be the next Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov made the controversial comments back in August when he was asked if his own promotion, the Eagle Fighting Championship, would feature ring card girls. According to “The Eagle,” he views ring card girls as pointless and said his promotion will not feature them. After saying these comments, there were many fans, fighters, and media who shot back at Nurmagomedov for what he said. But he says that he stands by his comments.

While CR7 wasn’t quite able to score the winner, it did give them a chance to reconnect after the game.

Khabib Nurmagomedov believes the only way Dan Hooker beats Islam Makhachev is by a lucky punch. Makhachev is a pupil of Nurmagomedov and was supposed to fight Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 267 in October. Yet, the Brazilian was forced out of the fight and Hooker took the fight on short notice and for Nurmagomedov, he expects Makhachev to maul Hooker.

An audience member leaped on stage to try and attack former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov during a recent speaking engagement. Nurmagomedov is retired from MMA but he has been busy traveling the world and doing speaking engagements. At a recent Q&A session in Harrogate, England, Nurmagomedov was on the stage speaking. As soon as he stood up from his seat, a member of the audience immediately got up and confronted “The Eagle.” However, Nurmagomedov didn’t even flinch, and security immediately removed the fan from invading his personal space.

Nurmagomedov recently had some choice comments to make regarding the ring card girls in mixed martial arts, essentially arguing that they are useless to the sport. Shevchenko, however, disagrees with what “The Eagle” has suggested. Speaking to reporters following UFC 266, Shevchenko was asked why she made a detour and stopped to talk to the ring card girls following her win over Lauren Murphy. According to Shevchenko, she wanted to show her respect to them, as Shevchenko believes ring card girls are important to MMA.

Nurmagomedov recently had some negative things to say about MMA ring card girls, essentially suggesting that they are pointless. That led to a number of the ring card girls, such as Arianny Celeste and Brittany Palmer, coming to their own defense, not to mention there have been other fighters who have disagreed with Nurmagomedov for his opinion. One of those fighters is Shevchenko, who did not agree at all with the recent comments that Nurmagomedov made. As far as Shevchenko goes, Nurmagomedov is wrong.

UFC legend BJ Penn shared his theory as to why former lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov would not fight welterweight kingpin Kamaru Usman. Penn was once considered the greatest lightweight in UFC history, but Nurmagomedov and his 29-0 MMA/13-0 UFC record has surpassed Penn in the eyes of many as the lightweight GOAT. Penn, however, recently shot back at that notion, saying that he believed Nurmagomedov walked away from his career too early. In addition, Penn also believes that Nurmagomedov did not challenge himself enough by moving to another weight class.

Many fans would consider Nurmagomedov the No. 1 lightweight of all time after going 29-0 in his MMA career, including a perfect 13-0 record in the UFC alone. However, some critics of Nurmagomedov have pointed out the fact he only had three title defenses as reasons as to why he might not be the run-away GOAT, with others such as Penn in the conversation.
