VIDEO | Khabib Nurmagomedov not impressed by “alcoholics” Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje
It’s arguable that Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje’s lightweight showdown was the most anticipated feature of the UFC 218 bill, and when the cage door closed, the fight delivered on expectations. For two and a half rounds, the two patron saints of violence beat each other silly, throwing caution to the wind, until Alvarez put his foe down for good with a third-round knee to the face.
While this fight stands out as one of the best of the year, however, not everybody enjoyed it. File undefeated UFC lightweight contender Khabib Nurmagomedov into that group.
During a recent Instagram live video, the Dagestani star disparaged this Alvarez vs. Gaethje fight, saying the pair fought like “alcoholics.” Watch Nurmagomedov trash this UFC 218 Fight of the Night winner in the video above, and see the a transcription of the translation below.
“They fought like two alcoholics,” Nurmagomedov said of Alvarez and Gaethje’s fight.” Now [Alvarez] he thinks he’s back, but what [is he] going to do with his loss to Conor McGregor, which disgraced him for the rest of his life? How will he erase it? That loss can not be removed.”
In this video, Nurmagomedov also divulged that, should he beat Edson Barboza at UFC 219 on December 30, he expects to battle Tony Ferguson for the interim lightweight title in March or April.
“When the cage closes, Barboza and I will remain alone,” he said. “The perfect conclusion will be, after the fight, we have spoken with UFC, if I win I will fight Tony in March or April.”
Khabib Nurmagomedov has never lost as a professional, having amassed an incredible, 24-0 professional record. Highlights of this flawless mark include defeats of Gleison Tibau, Thiago Tavares, Abel Trujillo, Pat Healy, Rafael dos Anjos and Michael Johnson.
