“If they wanna make money fight, they have to pay me too, you know? I’m not going to give him chance like about…use my name and Conor [McGregor] make money, UFC make money and I make $200,000… No way.
If they want like I fight my current contract, I can fight but okay, give me [Dustin] Poirier. I’m gonna follow my contract but if they wanna use my name and use me to make money, Conor and UFC, no way.”
The next possible lightweight championship bout could very well end up being one of if not the biggest fight in UFC history.
That likely next fight being the grudge match between Russia’s first ever UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and the former champion at lightweight and featherweight, the first Irish UFC champion, Conor McGregor.
All signs have pointed at this being next for each man and Dana White has even claimed that it’s being worked on. As has the managers of each fighter.
What comes with a McGregor fight along with all the attention is, of course, all the money.
Something that Nurmagomedov is wanting to make sure he’s paid for before this fight is made official. Specifically how much he is looking for appears to be at least $10M according to his manager Ali Abdelaziz.
McGregor is most recently coming off of his big cross-sport boxing payday from his match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in August 2017.
As for Nurmagomedov, if he can’t get the agreeable amount for the bout then he is all fine with moving on to continue building a legacy.
With Tony Ferguson still on the mend, the emergence of Dustin Poirier has provided for a very logical next option atop the 155-pound division.
Many have speculated that we’ll be getting the announcement tomorrow at the UFC’s big 25th-anniversary press conference where plenty of other big year-end bouts will surely be announced.
