The fighters started the action feeling each other out with kicks that didn’t really land. As the first minute ticked away, Fernando Gonzalez landed a nice body kick as Lorenz Larkin regained cage control and began to work his patented front teep kicks to the body and thigh. Gonzalez fought back with single hooks at times but nothing significant came from them. Larkin landed a perfect low leg kick that Gonzalez countered on with a good left hook but it didn’t get though Larkin’s defense. “The Monsoon” Larkin was picking and moving with his shots, employing his game but when Gonzalez found an opportunity to flurry he took it and each traded strikes for a brief moment. Larkin quickly got back to controlling the pace and working his kicking game.

The highly anticipated welterweight scrap between knockout artists Lorenz Larkin and Paul Daley took place last night at Bellator 183. Unfortunately for fans of “Da Monsoon”, after a strong opening round Daley was able to catch Larkin with a brutal left hook that had Lorenz out on his feet. The fight was stopped moments later by the referee.

A highly anticipated welterweight showdown between knockout artists Lorenz Larkin and Paul Daley served as the co-main event of tonight’s Bellator 183 fight card. Round one begins and both men are cautious early while trying to find their range. They exchange kicks early during the feeling out process. Lorenz lands a heavy low kick. Daley eats it and backs off. Larkin rushes in with a flurry of punches on Daley. Paul circles and throws up a head kick. It misses and he falls to the ground. Larkin jumps on him and begins working from side control. “Da Monsoon” with some good shots from the position before the horn sounds to end round one.

Bellator has scooped up another fighter from the UFC as Lorenz Larkin was announced under the Bellator promotion on Thursday. Bellator President Scott Coker tweeted a link to Larkin’s signing and said, “Looking forward to seeing @da_MONSOON in the @BellatorMMA cage very soon. Welcome back Lorenz! #BellatorNation”

In August of this year, Lorenz “The Monsoon” Larkin mauled long-time welterweight contender Neil Magny to a first-round TKO. In doing so, he improved his welterweight record to a strong 4-1, and established himself as one of the division’s very best fighters – the seventh best, according to the UFC rankings. Larkin’s defeat of Magny was significant for more reasons than the way it thrust him into the welterweight top-10, however. It also marked the final fight on his UFC contract. Having fought out his contract, the top-ranked welterweight announced his plans to test his value as a free agent.

After a hot-and-cold run as a middleweight, Lorenz “The Monsoon” Larkin completely revivified his career with a drop to the UFC’s welterweight division. This drop to welterweight began with a blistering, first-round TKO of a game John Howard. His sophomore effort in the division, meanwhile, saw him take out Santiago Ponzinibbio with second-round punches. And though he experienced his lone welterweight hiccup in his next bout thereafter, giving up a razor-close split decision to Albert Tumenov, he has since rebounded from that loss with a decision victory over Jorge Masvidal and, most impressively of all, a first-round savaging of the highly regarded Neil Magny.
