Luke Rockhold vows “there won’t be a third” fight with Chris Weidman

In December of 2015, former Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold stepped into the cage with Chris Weidman in hopes of stealing the UFC middleweight title. After three wild rounds of fighting, Rockhold succeeded on his mission, stopping Weidman with a volley of fourth-round strikes and capturing the UFC middleweight belt.

On November 3, on the main card of UFC 230, Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman will step into the cage for a second time. If Weidman is able to defeat Rockhold, thereby evening the score with him, it’s conceivable the pair could be booked for a tie-breaking trilogy fight in the near future.

According to Luke Rockhold, however, that simply won’t be happening.

Responding to a post on Twitter, Rockhold stated bluntly that, after his UFC 230 rematch with Weidman, there will be no need for a third fight.

“There won’t be a third fight,” Rockhold stated.

Luke Rockhold last fought in January, when he was knocked out by Yoel Romero, who missed weight for the fight. In his next most recent fight, he defeated former two-division World Series of Fighting champion David Branch with a volley of second-round punches. Rockhold is 16-4 overall.

Chris Weidman, meanwhile, is 14-3 in sum. He hasn’t fought since July of 2017, when he defeated top contender Kelvin Gastelum by submission. This win served to separate Weidman from consecutive stoppage losses to Gegard Mousasi, Yoel Romero and Rockhold.
