Luke Rockhold weighs in on Michael Bisping vs. Yoel Romero

By Chris Taylor - November 22, 2016

Yoel Romero (12-1 MMA) extended his current win streak to eight in a row earlier this month in New York, this after scoring a devastating third-round knockout victory (flying knee) over former middleweight champion Chris Weidman on the main card of UFC 205.

With the win, “The Soldier of God” solidified his status as the 185-pound divisions number one contender and earned himself a title shot against current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping.

During a recent interview with Submission Radio, former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold weighed in on the anticipated Yoel Romero vs. Michael Bisping title fight.

“I think it’s a rare, rare opportunity for Bisping to pull it off – about as rare as when he beat me,” Rockhold told Sub radio. “I think Yoel pretty much goes in there and it might take a little while, but he’ll get to Bipsing sure enough. I believe Bisping is a tough individual. He’s going to go in there and he’s the more technical striker and Yoel’s pretty raw, but I think with the takedown opportunities, that he’ll start to throw Bisping around it would start changing the pace of the fight.”

“The Count”, who became the UFC’s middleweight champion by scoring a shocking first-round knockout over Luke Rockhold on short-notice at UFC 199 this past June, has been labelled the underdog for his upcoming title defense against Romero.

Bisping was last seen in action at October’s UFC 204 event in Manchester, where he earned a hard fought decision victory over bitter rival Dan Henderson.

As for Rockhold, the former middleweight champion is eyeing a return to action this March, possibly against Ronadlo Souza.

The Michael Bisping vs. Yoel Romero middleweight championship bout has been rumored to take place at UFC 208, which is slated to take place in Anaheim, California in early 2017.
