Matchmaker: What’s next for the UFC 201 main card winners?
Last night’s UFC 201 event in Atlanta delivered with some memorable fights and solid finishes.
Tyron Woodley became the UFC’s undisputed welterweight champion by scoring a first-round knockout victory over Robbie Lawler in the evenings main event.
In the evening’s co-main event Karolina Kowalkiewicz picked up a split-decision victory over Rose Namajunas to earn herself a crack at the UFC strawweight title.
Here is a look at what could be next for the UFC 201 main card winning fighters:
Tyron Woodley
Should fight: Stephen Thompson. “Wonderboy” is currently riding a seven-fight win streak and is the welterweight divisions obvious number one contender.
Karolina Kowalkiewicz
Should fight: Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Karolina Kowalkiewicz defeated Rose Namajunas in the co-main event of UFC 201 and is now the strawweight divisions top contender.
Jake Ellenberger
Should fight: Johny Hendricks. Jake Ellenberger was on the verge of being cut from the UFC prior to his big win over Matt Brown at last night’s UFC 201 event. Jake had dropped five of his past six bouts before handing “The Immortal” the first stoppage loss of his career. Meanwhile, former title holder Johny Hendricks has lost two fights in a row and is in desperate need of a victory. Being two of the welterweight divisions most long standing veterans, it is time for Ellenberger and Hendricks to finally square off.
Erik Perez
Should fight: Johnny Eduardo. Erik Perez earned an impressive decision victory over dangerous knockout artist Francisco Rivera at last night’s UFC 201 event. Perez has now won two straight fights and three of his last four overall. Meanwhile, Johnny Eduardo is coming off a submission loss to Aljamain Sterling his most recent outing. Prior to that, the Brazilian was coming off back-to-back wins including a brutal first-round knockout of Eddie Wineland. This would be a perfect step up in competition for Perez.
