Listen to the UFC 218: Holloway vs. Aldo 2 Conference Call Here

By Adam Conklin - November 20, 2017

Max Holloway, Jose Aldo

The penultimate UFC PPV of 2017 will feature one of the most important featherweight championship fights in history. Defending champion Max Holloway will put his belt on the line for the first time in a rematch against former champ, Jose Aldo. The belt changed hands in their first fight as Holloway escaped early trouble to come back and put Aldo away in the third.

Listen to the media call leading up to this elite rematch on 11/21 at 2:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT.

For the former champion, it will be his first fight against a champion, as a non-champion, since 2009 when he defeated Mike Brown at WEC 44. The anniversary of that fight just recently past: November 18th.

If Aldo wins, he will have claimed featherweight gold for the third time, extending his own record of doing so in the division. A loss would mark the first losing streak of his career, and the third in his last four fights.

The champion, however, would continue a career-defining win streak as a second win against Aldo would mark the 12th in a row. Holloway’s career as a professional was 7-3 when the streak began and the now 25-year-old Hawaiian had just lost to Conor McGregor (still just the second man to bring McGregor the distance). Now he stands at 18-3 with both an interim, and undisputed featherweight belt to his name.

A loss for Holloway would be his first since 2013 and could set up a trilogy fight that would mark perhaps the most complete title-picture infrastructure that the UFC currently has to offer.

UFC 218 takes place on December 2nd at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
