Max Holloway chasing more than an undisputed featherweight title
Interim UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway is currently gearing up for his upcoming UFC 212 scrap against undisputed featherweight champion Jose Aldo next weekend.
Ahead of that fight however, Holloway is looking to secure more than an undisputed featherweight title. ‘Blessed’ spoke to media members recently to explain why an undisputed featherweight title isn’t the thing he wants most out of his MMA career:
“I don’t only want the undisputed belt. I want the undisputed career, guys – the undisputed career. When it’s all said and done, I want them to be like, ‘My gosh, this guy is the greatest to have done it.’”
While at just 25 years old Holloway has proven to be one of the most dominant fighters in the featherweight division, putting together a 10-fight win streak that most recently saw him defeat former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis via 3rd round TKO, a win over former featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo would certainly be the biggest win of Holloway’s career.
“I just can’t wait to do the damn thing, get in there and fight one of the greatest of all time,” Holloway said. “He’s one of the greats in our sport, but it’s time for a new era. …
“I’ve been the underdog my whole life. I don’t care. I’m not supposed to be here. Max Holloway is not supposed to be talking to any of you guys. I’m not supposed to be here. It is what it is. Actions speak louder than words, and I’ve been doing a lot of actions.”
While Holloway has been on a tear of the 145 pound division, and will be looking to secure the undisputed featherweight title, Jose Aldo on the other hand will be looking to make his first successful title defense since losing the undisputed title to Conor McGregor in just 13 seconds at UFC 194.
