Max Holloway to Jose Aldo: “No more running”
The man with the longest winning streak in the UFC’s featherweight division is losing his patience in getting a fight with interim champion Jose Aldo.
Max Holloway (16-3), has won nine UFC fights in a row since dropping a decision loss to Conor McGregor back in 2013.
Since then, the 24-year-old Hawaaian has been on a tear through the featherweight division, and yet he still hasn’t received a title shot.
Holloway took to Twitter to call out Aldo, going as far as adding in Aldo’s Twitter handle to get his attention:
Now that bullshit is done, No more running @josealdojunior @danawhite @ufc #maxforgold
— Max Holloway (@BlessedMMA) September 27, 2016
Holloway most recently defeated former title contender Ricardo Lamas at UFC 199, making it his ninth win in a row. Since then, ‘Blessed’ has been on a mission for UFC gold, often using social media to promote his point while using the hashtag #maxforgold in nearly every one of such posts.
Meanwhile, the top five of the 145 pound weight class has been left in limbo after champion Conor McGregor took Aldo’s belt with a brutal 13-second knockout at UFC 194. Since then, McGregor hasn’t returned to the division, instead opting for two fights against Nate Diaz at welterweight.
Now that ‘Mystic Mac’ is scheduled to take on Eddie Alvarez for the 155 pound strap, his future at featherweight is even more uncertain.
While McGregor has been fighting above his belts weight division, Aldo won an interim title after beating Frankie Edgar for a second time at UFC 200. That leaves Holloway with one path toward the featherweight title, and that is Jose Aldo.
With that being said, Aldo is currently extremely upset with the UFC brass for allowing Conor McGregor to keep his featherweight title belt despite moving to lightweight to fight Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. Aldo has even gone as far as to request the UFC release him from his contract, but UFC President Dana White was quick to inform Aldo that the promotion will do no such thing.
Do you feel Holloway has earned a featherweight title shot after winning nine UFC fights in a row? Who would you pick in a fight between Holloway and Aldo? Sound off, PENN Nation!
