Max Holloway: ‘Stop your f***ing whining’ about Conor McGregor being stripped
Over the course of the past week, the UFC has had to fight several wildfires, on several different fronts. The first situation, was UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier withdrawing from his scheduled UFC 206 headlining bout against Anthony Johnson due to a tear in his groin. The promotion’s initial plan was to find a replacement opponent for Johnson, however given that Rumble has not only defeated, but knocked out, every fighter in the top 5 of the light heavyweight division, they were unable to do so. Several men, including middleweights Gegard Mousasi and Tim Kennedy, offered to take the short notice fight with ‘Rumble’ however Johnson has opted to wait for Cormier unless he can find a heavyweight opponent willing to fight.
The second situation was the questions and criticism regarding stripping Conor McGregor of the undisputed UFC featherweight championship, and promoting interim champion Jose Aldo to the undisputed champion. Subsequently, the promotion then made UFC 206’s co-main event scrap between Max Holloway and former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis an interim featherweight championship fight.
This brought the promotion quite a bit of criticism from McGregor fans, who were irate over the fact that the Irish superstar was stripped of the belt.
The way Max Holloway sees it however, critics need to stop their whining. He spoke on the UFC 206 media conference call to discuss the fight:
“We’ve got to go out there and do our damn things,” Holloway said during the call. “It is what it is, Conor set the bar and I’m here to beat it. That’s the bar we’ve got to beat and I’m reaching for it. I have all intentions on smashing it. First things first, the first step is Dec. 10, so that’s what we’re going to do.”
Holloway was then asked about the situation between McGregor, the UFC, and Jose Aldo, saying:
“The UFC gave him the title, the title says undisputed, so you can’t deny him,” Holloway said. “It is what it is, he’s got the belt. I need to go out there Dec. 10, handle business, get what’s mine and go after the undisputed one. I ain’t no hater about the guy. He got the damn thing. He had the interim, they gave him the real one now. That’s what it is. Everybody crying, you’re not going to change it with all your whining. Stop your (expletive) whining and do something with your own life and move on.”
