We now have a date for Jose Aldo vs. Max Holloway following UFC President Dana White confirming that a fight between Jose Aldo and Max Holloway for the undisputed featherweight title had been made official. Unfortunately, White couldn’t remember the date for the fight, and fight fans were left to speculate as to which event the fight would take place at. Now, a report from Combate has emerged which points to June 3rd being the date for the bout, at UFC 212.

It sounds like Max Holloway no longer has to look for Jose Aldo. ESPN’s Brett Okamoto tweeted on Friday that he spoke with Dana White and the UFC President told him that Jose Aldo vs. Max Holloway is set.

Since winning the interim featherweight championship earlier this month by TKOing Anthony Pettis, it was reported by recently-promoted featherweight champion Jose Aldo that he and Max Holloway would be fighting at UFC 208 in Brooklyn in February. Unfortunately, following Holloway’s win over Pettis, it was revealed that he had suffered an ankle injury and would be unable to compete at UFC 208. Holloway released a statement on the matter, pointing out that Aldo should not be criticizing his decision given the fact that he has pulled out of six fights.

While Jose Aldo has been informing fight fans that prior to Holloway vs. Pettis, ‘Blessed’, ‘Showtime’, and Aldo were all aware of the fact that the winner would fight Aldo at UFC 208 in Brooklyn, Holloway wasn’t made aware of the situation until after he TKOd Pettis.

Earlier this month, major changes were made to the UFC’s featherweight division when the UFC had Conor McGregor relinquish the UFC featherweight championship in order to promote the co-main event scrap of UFC 206 between Anthony Pettis and Max Holloway, to an interim featherweight title fight. Subsequently, Jose Aldo was promoted to the undisputed featherweight champion. While Anthony Pettis missed weight for the event, in the end it didn’t matter as Max Holloway picked up a third round TKO win to claim the interim featherweight title and secure himself a fight with Jose Aldo for the undisputed title.

This month has been a busy one for the UFC’s featherweight division. After Irish superstar Conor McGregor, who reigned as the featherweight champion at the time, successfully made his lightweight debut in November when he TKOd Eddie Alvarez to capture the lightweight championship, he then opted to relinquish the featherweight championship. As a result, the UFC chose to promote interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo to the undisputed featherweight champion, and make this past Saturday’s UFC 206 main event scrap between Max Holloway & Anthony Pettis an interim featherweight championship fight. While the fight was initially slated to be the co-main event, after UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier withdrew from his scheduled headlining fight with Anthony Johnson due to a groin injury, the co-main event scrap between Holloway & Pettis was promoted to the main event.

This win set the Hawaiian up for a title-unifying showdown with undisputed champ Jose Aldo, who was recently promoted to that role when Conor McGregor was stripped of the title. In the moments after his defeat of Pettis, Holloway issued a callout of Aldo, challenging the featherweight great to a showdown at UFC 208 this February in Brooklyn. He then encouraged fans to use the hashtag #WheresJoseWaldo on social media, referencing Aldo’s regrettable tendency to pull out of fights.

Tonight, in the main event of Toronto’s UFC 206 pay-per view card, streaking featherweight contender Max Holloway will square off against former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in a highly anticipated showdown between two of the best strikers in the featherweight division. For Holloway, the fight will be for the interim featherweight title, and give him the chance to not only extend his win streak to 10, but also secure a fight with featherweight champ Jose Aldo. For Pettis however, coming in three pounds over the featherweight limit of 145 pounds meant that he will no longer be able to capture the interim featherweight belt tonight with a win over Holloway.
