Jacare Souza blasts Michael Bisping
Top ranked UFC middleweight contender Michael Bisping may currently be on a tear of the UFC’s middleweight division, going on a 5-fight winning streak throughout 2015 and 2016 that saw him pick up wins over CB Dollaway, Thales Leites, and Anderson Silva before then picking up a short-notice win over Luke Rockhold to win the UFC middleweight championship at UFC 199.
In his first title defense, Bisping had a highly anticipated rematch with Dan Henderson in the main event of UFC 204 in October of 2016, where he picked up a unanimous decision win, avenging his infamous UFC 100 KO loss, and picking up his first successful title defense.
The way Jacare Souza sees it however, Bisping isn’t an ideal champion. He spoke to MMAJunkie:
“The truth is that (Bisping) doesn’t fight for his honor, or for his family,” Souza said. “He doesn’t even fight for himself. He’s a guy who only thinks about money. He only thinks about doing his thing and fighting for money. That’s his first choice. He doesn’t care about his fans. He doesn’t care what the fans want. The fans are the ones who pay for this scoundrel’s salary, so he better respect them.”
“I’m the guy to fight for the belt,” Jacare Souza said. “Everyone knows that I’m the most viable option for the UFC in terms of media, pay-per-view sales, everything. Everyone knows that Bisping’s fight with Dan Henderson was a disaster.
“They didn’t even show how many pay-per-view packages it sold. It certainly was a disaster. No one was interested in watching that crappy fight. The UFC sold the tickets in six minutes, because of Bisping – if he wasn’t there, they’d have sold out in three minutes.”
Souza of course is currently gearing up for his UFC 208 scrap with Tim Boetsch in February, where he could potentially move one step closer to a title fight.
