If things had gone according to the original plan, the UFC’s November 26 visit to Shanghai, China would be headlined by a middleweight scrap between Kelvin Gastelum and former champion Anderson Silva. Unfortunately, Silva was pulled from this bout after a disappointing brush with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). The silver lining is that the UFC was able to find a compelling replacement for Silva in Michael Bisping, who wore the divisional crown until he was dethroned by Georges St-Pierre earlier this month. Now less than two weeks out from this event, the UFC has released an updated poster for it, highlighting Michael Bisping and Kelvin Gastelum’s last-minute main event confrontation.

Michael Bisping confirms retirement fight will occur in London

Tom Taylor - November 14, 2017

Earlier this month, in the main event of UFC 217, a 38-year-old Michael Bisping surrendered the UFC middleweight title to Georges St-Pierre, succumbing to a rear-naked choke after being dropped by a left hand. Though this title loss seemed like a cause for a bit of a vacation, Bisping surprisingly agreed to a quick turnaround, stepping in to replace Anderson Silva against Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of the UFC’s November 26 debut in Shanghai, China.

Tom Taylor - November 13, 2017

A little over a week removed from his submission loss to Georges St-Pierre – which was preceded by quite a bit of blunt force trauma – former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is already scheduled for another fight. Having stepped in to replace Anderson Silva, who was notified of a potential USADA violation, Bisping is now set to face Kelvin Gastelum in the main event of the UFC’s debut in Shanghai on November 26. Speaking to FloCombat just hours after this bout was announced, Bisping explained his choice to step in against Gastelum.

If things had gone according to plan, the UFC’s November 26 debut in Shanghai, China, would have been headlined by a middleweight scrap between former champion Anderson Silva and dangerous contender Kelvin Gastelum. Regrettably, a potential USADA violation recently forced Silva out of this planned contest, leaving the UFC with mere weeks to find a replacement opponent for Gastelum. Enter Michael Bisping who, until UFC 217 earlier this month, owned the UFC middleweight crown. Just weeks after losing his title to resurgent former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, Bisping stepped up to replace Silva, saving the UFC’s debut in the largely untapped stronghold of mainland China.

Jon Jones Sends Georges St-Pierre a Message Before UFC 217

Justin Golightly - November 4, 2017

Georges St-Pierre didn’t owe us or the UFC anything, but that didn’t stop him from coming back. The former welterweight king walks back into the Octagon tonight to keep his legacy in contention and to attempt to capture a belt in a higher division he spent years on top of. No doubt it’s a huge fight between St-Pierre and Michael Bisping, so huge that Jon Jones couldn’t resist talking about it. From one greatest-of-all-time candidate to another, Jones sent out a message to St-Pierre ahead of his fight at UFC 217. Hey @GeorgesStPierre you’ve always been one of my biggest inspirations. Show the world how great you can be tonight. Praying for you

Michael Bisping is Open to a Superfight with Daniel Cormier

Justin Golightly - November 4, 2017

Michael Bisping is mere hours away now from arguably the biggest fight of his career against Georges St-Pierre. The former welterweight king will challenge for the UFC middleweight title, while Bisping is fighting to retain and cement his legacy as one of the greats. If he manages to take out St-Pierre, will he defend his belt against Robert Whittaker or set his goals even higher? According to Daniel Cormier, it’s possible Bisping could go up and challenge for the light heavyweight belt. Russell Ess - November 3, 2017

We are just a day away from UFC 217, which is surely one of the biggest cards of the year. With the UFC’s return to Madison Square Garden in New York, the stacked card will feature three title fights. The main event of the evening will feature UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping defending his title against former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. This is a huge matchup as it is St-Pierre’s first fight in the UFC since November of 2013 where he won a close and controversial split decision title fight against Johny Hendricks. This also marks the first time “Rush” will be fighting at middleweight in his professional MMA career.

If you saw UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping and UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal and their exchanges backstage leading up to UFC 217, you would think that the two were meeting in the Octagon on Saturday night. However, this isn’t the case as Bisping is set to take on former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre in the main event of the evening while Masvidal will look to establish himself as one of the next welterweight title contenders as he meets Stephen Thompson in the Octagon.

Jake Shields Thinks Georges St-Pierre is Too Talented Not to Find a Way to Win

Justin Golightly - November 2, 2017

At UFC 129, Georges St-Pierre successfully defended his UFC welterweight title for the sixth time against one of the best grapplers in MMA, Jake Shields. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion has wins over Robbie Lawler, Demian Maia, and even Tyron Woodley, but he wasn’t able to beat St-Pierre that night. Six years later, Shields helped St-Pierre prepare for his huge comeback fight against Michael Bisping. He recently talked in-depth about the match-up from an insider perspective and gave his prediction for the fight. “[Georges St-Pierre]’s a martial artist, so he’s always trying to grow. He didn’t take four years to just party, film movies and cruise around, he was still training pretty much every day, he was coming to New York, you know, I think he was going out and working boxing as well – actually, I know he had a guy from Toronto who was a boxer, Jorge, was working with him as well. So, he was constantly learning and expanding new skills, so definitely. Plus, he’s bigger now, he’s probably put on 10 pounds of muscle. He’s still going to be smaller than Bisping, but he has that extra weight which should help.”

Michael Bisping Wants His Next Title Defense to be in Manchester

Justin Golightly - November 1, 2017

The UFC is coming back to Australia in February for UFC 221. According to a report by Perth Now, Robert Whittaker is scheduled to appear, which definitely makes sense for the hard-hitting Aussie. It was natural to assume that UFC interim middleweight champ Whittaker and whoever comes out the actual middleweight champion at UFC 217, would attempt to unify the titles at UFC 221. However, Michael Bisping put a cork in those plans if he’s still got the strap after this Saturday. “Yeah, yeah [UFC 221 on February 11th is a quick turnaround]. I’m not awfully keen on fighting down in Australia. I mean, my wife’s Australian. I’ve fought in Australia three or four times already from one career. My next fight, if I have any say in it, is going to be in Manchester. Obviously, I don’t own the UFC, but If I beat Georges [St-Pierre] I’d like to think I still get a bit of say in it. I’d like that to be in Manchester, but we’ll see.”

Tyron Woodley Claims He's Got the Next UFC Middleweight Title Shot after UFC 217

Justin Golightly - October 31, 2017

No tragic curve ball has derailed any of the three title fights stacked up top for UFC 217, that means we’re only four days away from huge fights with even bigger implications. The cherry perched atop the violence smorgasbord is Georges St-Pierre challenging Michael Bisping for the UFC middleweight title. The UFC and St-Pierre have gone on record saying if he wins, he’ll defend against interim middleweight champ Robert Whittaker, but Tyron Woodley has other ideas. “I think my next opponent is going to be the winner of Bisping and Georges St-Pierre. I think that’s my next fight. Victorious in that fight, I think you see me move up to a different weight class. At one point in time, you look at 1, 2 and 3, and I beat them. I beat 1, 2, 3, 5. Kelvin Gastelum and Johny Hendricks were in the mix, I beat them as well. Tarec Saffiedine, who just got bumped out [of the top 15], Dong Hyun Kim, who just got bumped out. “People have short term memories on what my resume is, and my finishing ability. Out of 17, 18 victories, 11 of those were finishes, 9 of those in the first round.”

Coach Defends 'Naturally Ripped' Georges St-Pierre from Bisping's PED Accusations

Justin Golightly - October 28, 2017

Michael Bisping has said everything he can in the lead up to UFC 217 to tear down Georges St-Pierre as an opponent. He’s brought up stories and controversies from many years ago, he’s poked holes in his record, and he’s accused him of using steroids. All is fair in love and war, right? Georges St-Pierre’s coach Firas Zahabi recently spoke out about Bisping’s comments and refuted them. He insists he’s drug free and just that good. “[Michael Bisping is making steroid accusations] because Georges [St-Pierre]. About 10 to 20 percent of the population is naturally ripped. Georges just happens to be one of those people. You look at him as he was growing up, he’s just naturally ripped. He’s been tested, he’s volunteered to be tested, and he’s paid out of his own pocket to be tested and for his opponent to be tested. He’s never failed one single test. Just because somebody’s lean and extremely competent in fighting doesn’t mean they’re on drugs. That’s the truth.”
