Michael Chandler is not impressed by “huge dork” Dillon Danis

By Tom Taylor - May 8, 2018

Late last month, BJJ ace and Conor McGregor training partner Dillon Danis made a successful MMA debut, tapping Kyle Walker with a first-round toe-hold on the main card of Bellator 198. Shortly thereafter, former Bellator lightweight champ Michael Chandler took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Danis.

Speaking on the latest episode of the JRE MMA Show, Chandler explained this hostility toward Danis.

“I don’t think he looked very good,” Chandler told Joe Rogan on the show (transcribed by Mike Bohn for MMAjunkie. “It was all right. He went in there, got a nice little transition. He looked like a fish out of water on the feet, which of course it’s his first MMA fight. Do I respect the win, do I respect what he did in BJJ? It’s cool, but it’s mixed martial arts. It’s funny how much he’s being called out for being just a wannabe Conor with the exact same stuff. He’s doing a good job with it, but he also said he’s the highest paid fighter in Bellator and silly stuff.”

Chandler continued, calling Danis a dork.

“He’s a dork, man,” he said. “Huge dork.”

Michael Chandler, who is one of Bellator’s biggest stars, is not the only fighter to take aim at Danis of late. The BJJ export has also recently been targeted by former UFC champs Michael Bisping and Rafael dos Anjos.

Then again, Danis hasn’t exactly been quiet himself. The outspoken 24-year-old has had plenty to say about many of his peers, including UFC 225 interim welterweight title challenger Colby Covington.

What do you think of Michael Chandler’s take on Dillon Danis? Do you think the pair will eventually cross paths in the Bellator cage?
