BREAKING | Michael Johnson Wants to Fight Jose Aldo at Featherweight

Aside from his first round knockout of Dustin Poirier, Michael Johnson hasn’t had a good track record as of late. Despite only having one win in his last five fights, it’s not like Johnson is a slouch. In his 17 UFC fights at lightweight, he’s beaten the likes of Tony Ferguson, Edson Barboza and Joe Lauzon. However, he thinks this recent run may be corrected with an adjustment, something he just dropped out of left field at a public Q & A. Michael Johnson wants to cut down to featherweight and he isn’t even thinking about a warm-up fight. He challenged none other than Jose Aldo for his 145-pound debut.

“I was thinking about making a comeback at 145 because I’ve fought everybody at the top 10 at 155 division. So, I think it’s time for me to see some new faces in the cage. Jose Aldo. […] He’s a great champion so I’d love to go down to 145 and fight him. Anytime, anywhere. Hopefully in December, I can go down to Brazil and fight him. I just love good exciting fights and he’s a guy I’d love to be in there with.” – Michael Johnson during a UFC Rotterdam Q & A.

Wow. You can’t say that Johnson steers clear of challenges. If this fight happens and Jose Aldo manages to put a career lightweight away, then he’s right back in the mix. On the contrary, if Michael Johnson beats Aldo, it could result in an immediate title shot against Max Holloway. Just like that, tons of match-ups start coming out of the wood work. Let’s see how all of this plays out.
