Michael ‘Venom’ Page calls for Bellator vs UFC event
British welterweight Michael ‘Venom’ Page may fight for Bellator, but with a handful of high-profile UFC fighters signing with the Spike-based promotion recently, MVP can’t help but think of what a Bellator vs. UFC card would look like.
While the Bellator/UFC discussion is at an all time high with Rory MacDonald signing with Bellator last week, MVP was asked about his thoughts on fighting on a co-promoted event between the two of them:
“(I)f the UFC and Bellator could somehow work together, and do joint bouts it would be incredible,” Page told FloCombat. “It would bring me back to those WWE days. Man, it was immense, I remember watching those shows and that changed the game for them. If the UFC and Bellator could just shake hands and work together on a few things then it would be better for the fighters, better for the fans and better for everyone. That’s that man–I’d be down with that.”
Coming off of a blistering flying knee knockout of MMA veteran Evangelista ‘Cyborg’ Santos in July, the MVP hype train is rolling along faster than ever, and he has his sights set on recently acquired Rory MacDonald in a Bellator vs. UFC welterweight contest.
“Rory coming over is absolutely massive for Bellator,” Page said. “He’s a prominent character and a high-level fighters who’s made the crossover now. I think it’s just going to make a few more people questions what’s going on. It not only adds attraction to my promotion, but my division. I think my division right now is one of the most lethal divisions right now–especially in standup.”
The UFC and Bellator have increased their exchanges of fighters through the free agency process over the past year, with former Bellator lightweight champion ‘Ill’ Will Brooks having already debuted in the Octagon in July, the aforementioned MacDonald signing with Bellator, and former top 5 light heavyweight Phil Davis being one of the first UFC fighters to jump ship back in 2015.
