VIDEO | Michelle Waterson shares her take on the Donald Cerrone-JacksonWink situation

“All I can say is…that’s family. Families get into fights sometimes and unfortunately, this fight got aired out a little bit to the public. I love and respect both [Donald] Cowboy [Cerrone] and coach [Mike Winklejohn] immensely.

I wouldn’t have been at [Greg] Jackson’s if it wasn’t for Donald. He’s the one that introduced me to coach Jackson and coach ‘Wink’ and I wouldn’t be here in my career if it wasn’t for coach Wink he’s been in my corner for almost over a decade and he’s a father figure to me. Both men are very headstrong and they’re very like-minded and I’m sure that they will…figure out their issues.

Yeah, [the gym] has to [change]. If it doesn’t then you’re not even evolving, you’re not growing. It’s inevitable. Evolution is inevitable, change is inevitable. If there is no change, you don’t grow. So yes I do think it’s changed but I don’t think it’s changed for the worse.”

The drama between members of a gym in the fighting world is never a pretty sight and unfortunately for JacksonWink MMA, they got a great deal of it recently.

After Mike Perry made his move to the Albuquerque based camp for his previous fight, it created a rift going into his upcoming one with a brief teammate turned opponent in Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

Since then, each fighter and coach has shared their opinions on the situation and all stand their ground for their sides. When it comes to influential members of the team, these are some of the more important ones as evidenced by Michelle Waterson’s comments who is a longtime staple herself.

Cerrone and Perry will meet in UFC Denver’s co-main event on November 10. As for ‘The Karate Hottie’ Waterson, she kicks off the UFC 229 main card this Saturday night as she takes on Felice Herrig.
