Miesha Tate: ‘I would love to’ appear in WWE

By Tom Taylor - March 21, 2017

In the first fight on the main card of November’s landmark UFC 205, Miesha Tate came up short to Raquel Pennington. Shortly after this fight, the former women’s bantamweight champion announced her intention to retire from mixed martial arts competition.

It’s not my time anymore,” Tate told UFC commentator Joe Rogan. “It’s the future’s time.”

Since then, the former champ has stayed plenty busy, working as an analyst for Fox Sports, and competing in a grappling match against Jessica Eye to satisfy her appetite for competition.

Recently, however, we’ve been given reason to believe that there’s a chance we’ll see Tate back on the big stage in the future. During a fan Q&A in the buildup to last weekend’s UFC London card, she suggested she would consider coming out of retirement for another fight with her biggest rival, Ronda Rousey.

“If I was going to come back, [Rousey] would be the fight that would appeal to me the most,” Tate said.

During the same Q&A period, Tate also suggested she’d be interested in appearing in the WWE ring.

“I would love to,” she said. “It would be fun. I would love to. I’m open to all kinds of things like that. It would be a lot of fun.”

Were Tate to make a WWE appearance, she’d be following in the footsteps of Rousey, who appeared in the pro wrestling organization’s ring back in 2015, joining The Rock to lay a quick beatdown on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

The tradition of athletes jumping from MMA to pro wrestling and vice versa, of course, is nothing new, as pro wrestlers like Brock Lesnar, Bobby Lashley, Dave Batista and CM Punk have realized varying levels of success in MMA, and pro fighters like Rousey, Josh Barnett, Matt Riddle, and others have appeared on various pro wrestling stages.
