Miesha Tate sounds off on the return of Ronda Rousey

Tonight in Las Vegas, former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will be stepping into the Octagon after over a year away from the sport. When she returns, she will be facing UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes, who is fresh off a 1st round submission win over Miesha Tate to claim the women’s bantamweight championship back in July.

Ahead of Rousey’s return, her longtime nemesis, Miesha Tate, spoke on Fox Sports 1 to discuss Rousey’s return, saying:

“It makes you wonder where her head is at,” Tate said in an interview with FS1’s “Undisputed.” “Is she laser-focused, or is she struggling?”

“Maybe she doesn’t want to do this,” Tate said. “Because she said I’ll do this under one condition – my way. I feel like maybe she doesn’t want to be here doing this right now.”

“If she really wanted to continue fighting, she would’ve been back there sooner,” Tate said. “Her taking a year and some change off, I think she wants to do other things. I don’t think she really wants to be in there fighting anymore, but I think she’s doing it sort of as a favor to the UFC.”

With that being said, Rousey certainly has appeared to be all-business throughout fight week as she has been straight faced in her select few public appearances. Regardless of Rousey’s focus, one thing is certain, Amanda Nunes has serious one-punch knockout power. Knockout power that Tate herself felt at UFC 200 when Nunes rocked her in the opening moments of the first round. Tate was never able to fully get back in the fight, and wound up being submitted in the first round.

“I have never been hit that hard in my life, so (Nunes) packs one heck of a punch, and I’ll tell you one thing: It’s only going to take one of those to land clean, and it’s going to ring Ronda’s bell,”
