Miesha Tate weighs-in on potential Amanda Nunes vs. Ronda Rousey fight

Back in July, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate stepped into the Octagon in the main event of UFC 200 against Amanda Nunes in what many consider to be the UFC’s biggest Pay-Per View ever. While Tate was entering the bout on a 5-fight win streak that has seen her go unbeaten for three years, Nunes was entering the bout on a 3-fight win streak, and was as hungry as can be for the women’s bantamweight title.

In just the first round, Nunes rocked Tate with a big right hand shot, ultimately submitting the champ with a rear naked choke just three minutes & 16 seconds into the fight to claim the women’s bantamweight title.

Fast forward three months and Nunes is rumored to be defending her championship belt against Ronda Rousey at UFC 207, however there has been no official word on the scrap yet.

Despite that, Tate spoke in an interview with MMAFighting to discuss the potential scrap, saying:

“I feel like there’s so many weird variables, it’s really, really hard to say, because who knows what we’re going to get out of Ronda when she comes back,” Tate said. “If we’re getting Ronda at the best that she’s ever been, then I’d say Ronda (would win the fight). But if we’re getting Ronda coming back with a half-ass mentality, kind of like ‘I just feel like I have to do this one time,’ and then she’s got a lot of ring rust and maybe she’s still punch-shy since she hasn’t fought since Holly, and we all saw that obviously Amanda has incredible power with her right hand — so if she hits Ronda with one of those, I could see it being a huge problem for Ronda. A big, big problem.

“So it’s kind of hard to say, honestly. I really just don’t know what we’re going to get with Ronda. I know what we’re going to get with Amanda. I just have no idea what we’re going to get with Ronda.”

Rousey, who has been absent from the Octagon since her UFC 193 KO loss to Holly Holm almost a year ago, is now reportedly closer than ever before to returning to the Octagon.
