Mike Perry has a great reason for keeping things friendly with opponent Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone
On November 10, when the UFC returns to Denver, Colorado, fan favorite welterweights “Platinum” Mike Perry and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will collide in a fight that has fans salivating.
Ahead of this fight, you won’t hear much in the way of trash talk from the often outspoken Mike Perry. And that’s not just because he and Cowboy briefly trained together at Jackson’s MMA in Albuquerque.
Instead, it’s because Perry has heard that Cowboy is at his best when he’s friendly with his opponents. He wants the best version of his opponent come fight night, so he plans on keeping things as friendly as possible.
“People say Cowboy does his best when he’s friendly with you, and if you show it in return, he’s going to take you out,” Perry said at the UFC 25th anniversary press conference last week (transcript via MMAjunkie). “Well, I always want the best out of my opponents.”
While Perry is wary of Cerrone’s ground game, he believes his UFC Denver opponent is going to want to trade with him on the feet when the cage door closes.
“I don’t know, I saw a picture of Cowboy in his gi, man,” Perry said. “I think he’s going to try and come and take me down and make it a boring fight. But there’s no way that’s going to happen. We’re going to put on a hell of a show.”
From the sounds of it, Cowboy is expecting a similar fight.
“There’s not going to be any confusion,” Cerrone said. “He’s definitely going to meet me in the middle and throw the fuck down. I can’t wait.”
