Dana White on Misha Cirkunov: ‘We got a deal done’
Many fans were blown away when Dana White announced that light heavyweight prospect Misha Cirkunov was let go by the UFC. With a 13-2 professional record and going 4-0 in the UFC with all of his UFC wins being finishes, fans were left scratching their head on how the promotion could let go of such a promising fighter in the 205-pound division.
“I met with Misha and his wife, and good people and everything else, but he ended up really flaking out on the deal,” White said on TSN when he initially announced Cirkunov was no longer with the UFC. “So I’m not interested. I’m done. He knows I’m done. I made it very clear I’m done.”
“You’ll see him somewhere,” White said. “It just won’t be here.”
On Wednesday, White was back on TSN and announced that Georges St-Pierre will be fighting Michael Bisping for the UFC middleweight title. White was also asked about Cirkunov, and the UFC boss stated that they finally came to an agreement and got a deal done to keep him fighting in the UFC Octagon.
“Yeah, we got a deal done,” White said on TSN. “He and his wife flew down to Las Vegas and had dinner with me. Liked them both, nice guy, tough guy. We had come to terms on a deal, I had thought and he sort of went MIA on me and I honestly don’t know what happened. But, he came back around, we got the deal done and I’m happy about it. I’m glad we did and I look forward to seeing him fight again.”
